"The crew certainly meant no disrepect."

BULL. What a stellar ambassador for his crew, company and Americans in general.

How about waiting to hear his side of it? The Brazilians enacted this policy only to retaliate against a new US poicy . . . what makes you think that they didn't provoke him, or even fabricate the whole thing?

The problem with common sense is that it isn;t very common, to paraphrase Mark Twain.

"How about waiting to hear his side of it?"

Good point Ty. I'm inclined to think however, that given the apology AA issued, that the incident was probably not fabricated. (I could of course, be wrong) As far as the provoked side of it, I don't buy that one. In my short-lived five years and 15 countries worth of international flying, (Including Brazil) I've never been in a situation that even came close to waranting even a raised voice, let alone obscene gestures. Again, not to say it couldn't happen, it just seems highly unlikely.

You are however, still correct in your admonishment and I withdrawl my inflammatory statement until all the facts are in.

Cheers

He might have forgotten his visa waiver letter - an explanation in Portuguese that flight crewmwmbers don't need visas in Brazil. I was denied boarding on a Lan Chile flight into Sao Paulo once because I didn't have it....

You're probably right, but since US/Brazil relations are inflamed right now, this guy may have been put in a situation that he hadn't bargained for. . . .

I have read on some other sites that th Brazilian authorities, feeling humiliated by th fact that the US is now fingerprinting Brazilians and others (using digital technology, not inkpads) have responded by fingerprinting US citizens, and intentionally using the old sloppy ink pads, even though they have the digital means to take them. In other words, it is simply a punitive measure.

But, again, that is just ramblings on different web sites, so who knows the truth?

Hot headedness usually costs the user rather than the taker. Brazil has always been a pain in the ass though. We once had our crew contained for 24 hours during a military lift into Rio. They're difficult when it comes to entering or even refueling in their country. I will say this though, they'd better be careful irt their retaliation against the U.S. 'Cause if you piss off enough Americans, then the streets are gonna get pretty thin come Carnival time!

Ty,

You are correct. Flight Crews are now pawns in a diplomatic spat between the US & Brazil.

I hope Im not that bald and grey haired when Im a Internat Captain.

That is H-I-larious. Good for him! F#ck 'em if they can't take a joke!:D

Next time you get pulled over, try giving the cop the finger. We'll see how he takes your "joke".

Oh sure some joke, it is going to cost him some money for that joke. What the hell was he thinking?!?!

oh yea...I forgot giving the bird is somehow against the law!

Hey Mr. I'll fly the 80 for 80 bucks an hour....you sir are certainly not defending the profession!

"Have you ever asked for taxi instructions to the cargo ramp at Charles de Gaulle?"

LOL..Pretty rude huh? No, I've only flown over France, havn't landed there yet. I have enough trouble pronouncing the names of French VOR's. With the RVSM inclusive to 410, I havn't been doing the European flying recently, just down south. If my company does the RVSM mod this year, (As opposed to replacing the jets) then I imagine we'll start going back across the pond. In a weird sort of way I kind off miss Keflavik at minimums and crosswind landing practice at Santa Maria.

Ok guys I am dual citizen Brazilian and American currently living in America sorry for what I will say but I have been suffering discrmination here since I've moved and this was more than 3 years ago and a lot before 9/11 so what ?
Americans are in most arrogants yes sir not all of them but mostly yes. Also you are rude people and keeping using bad words most of the time and you're mistake is you mostly don't speak any other language but we do speak english so offensive terms for an authority as a cpatain in an international flight is untolerable.
I also flew in international flight and Japan for example you cannot enter with more than 1 box of cigarrete and no x-rated magazines so what if you have this objects with you you gonna be detained and maybe deported and get a not welcome visa there so we had on of our F/A with both things and he was stoped and the captain there is always guilty for his crew mistakes and we managed to let him go and put on trash the cigarrete boxes and the magazine. So respect for others culture and laws is the minimum somebody can have when traveling overseas. Plus as a captain in a flag vessel he should be at least more educated as AA want all to have at least a BS degree and I thought BS means Bachelor in Science and not bull....

So why do you chose to live in America if Americans are so rude and arrogant?

C'mon, give me a break.

lighten up

Hey Ligeirinho,
If we're so rude and arrogant, why would you possibly choose to seek dual citizenship so you could live and work here? Is it possible there is something substantive behind the American "superiority complex?" Before you cast aspersions against all Americans for being "most arrogants" and "keeping using bad words" (sic), perhaps you should meet some of your Brazilian compadres who have struck me in the precisely the same way. You won't find me leaving posts about it on a Brazilian website though. BTW, though you claim to speak English, your writing, spelling, and syntax need some serious help. Now go ride your high horse into the sunset of mangled grammar mister!
