A Wilton Manors commercial pilot facing child pornography charges for allegedly having sexually explicit images of bound and gagged youngsters on his laptop computer may be headed toward a plea deal.
At Christopher Holmes' arraignment hearing Wednesday morning, his defense attorney entered a not guilty plea on his client's behalf and indicated that a plea bargain is in the works.
"We'll keep the court apprised, but this may be moving toward a negotiated resolution," attorney Mike Dutko told U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick M. Hunt.
Holmes, 55, was present for the brief hearing in a Fort Lauderdale federal courtroom but did not speak.
Outside of the courtroom, Dutko declined to disclose any details about the deal.
"It's too premature," he said.
Holmes is free on $200,000 bond but is restricted to his home with an electronic ankle monitor.
Images of children as young as 6, bound and gagged in sexually explicit poses, and online chat logs expressing the desire to torture, rape and massacre young children were found on Holmes' laptop computer, a federal criminal complaint said.
One of the images appeared to depict "a dead child covered with lacerations and feces," the complaint said.
Federal agents confiscated Holmes' computer Aug. 16 at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when he returned from Guadalajara, Mexico, the complaint said.
Holmes told agents the laptop was his, that he had bought it before going to Mexico and it had not been in any other person's possession, the complaint said.
Online chat logs showed that Holmes, using the screen name toilettop2000, expressed "his desire to violently rape and sexually assault children," the complaint said.
