August 2008.........hello Dreamliner.

PARIS, France -- Deliveries of the Airbus A380 superjumbo passenger jet have been delayed by 10 months, the Dubai-based Emirates airline says.

The additional 10-month delay means that deliveries of the A380 are running nearly two years behind the original schedule. Airbus had already announced a delay of 12 months.

Tim Clark, president of Emirates, which is the biggest single client for the A380, said: "Emirates has been advised by Airbus of a further 10 months delay to its A380 program, which means that our first aircraft will now arrive in August 2008.

"This is a very serious issue for Emirates and the company is now reviewing all its options."

Have you even seen the Spruce Goose??? If not fly in to KMMV and take a look at it!

I used to visit it regularly when it was housed next to the Queen Mary at Port of Long Beach. The most significant fact about it was that it turned into a one-of-a-kind machine when the fortunes of war turned in the allies favor. It was never mass produced. I think the A380 will see production, but Airbus is not helping itself with production delays like this.

Meanwhile... Boeing is going gangbusters on the 787. Looks like everyone finally turned their cards up in this poker game, but its still too early to tell who the winner is.

A-380 will be the single biggest disaster for any aircraft maanfactuer, and may lead to their demise. Boeing went the right way with the 787, there is just no market for the A-380 anymore in todays economical climate.

Couldnt agree more. It's costing airlines that ordered this thing as they have planned for the arrival of this monster piece. And I dont think it is our reposnsibility to make our runways wider and longer to accomodate something that the French built.....unless they want to pay for that too.

Im not particularly fond of the idea of being crammed into a two story flying hotel with 555 other people for hours on end

Anyuone remember the B-747 when it first came out? Boeing dressed a couple up as flying luxury hotels with a piano, disco floor, sleeper berths, massage tables, probably a hot tub. Airbus has done the same with the A-380 publicity photos in an attempt to jazz the concept.

The reality is you get a near infinite sea of cheap coach seats, hundreds of PO'd pax, most with deep-vein thrombosis. The 380 will be a truly disastrous venture, all done for biggest-plane bragging rights.
