I think by having more wheels, there are twice the number of brakes. This allows the energy to be dissipated among eight discs, which means the brakes don't get as hot and take much less time to cool.

The extra wheels spreads the weight footprint of the aircraft across a larger section of ground and thereby allows it operate on poorer airport surfaces.

Early in the ACJ (corporate Airbus) program this was talked about as an option so operators could use more weight restrictive airports.
