When people say Legacy pilots are over-paid and killing-off the major airlines I agree with other threads pointing the finger at management. It is management that has stuck with an out dated paradigm / business model on how to run a major airline. The majors need a new way to compete. A static business dies in a dynamic environment. That is what capitalism is all about. A business either adapts / competes or it dies. That's how a capitalist economy remains efficient in allocating resources.
It is not pilot salaries killing the majors, it is bad management. The managers have failed to find a new way to compete. Those buying into the high salary propaganda are just buying into management's 'failure propaganda'. Management is simply deflecting blame which is not productive as it does nothing to solve any problems. Pilots could fly free and the mismanaged majors would still lose money.
When management crahses and burns do they lower their salaries? No, they get the get the boot with $millions in golden parachutes and then blame pilots.
Just think of this in regard to salaries... Most average lawyers make a minimum of $250/hr. When was the last time an attorney was responsible for the safety of hundreds of lives in machines that costs $100, $200, $300, or $400 million dollars.
I think pilots are worth every cent they make!
