A UAL friend sent me a copy of this letter.

May 12, 2005

You have made it painfully clear how unimportant ALL United's employees
are to you at the top management level. After enduring your antics for the
past several years, I shouldn't be surprised by your pathetic and disgusting
behavior. However, I had hoped maybe you might find some decency in
yourselves by now.

You are nothing less than thieving, lying, marauding corporate Pirates,
pretending to be astute businessmen dressed in suits. You hang around for a
few years, destroy our futures, degrade and abuse all who work for the good
of the company, collect your bonuses and disappear with your golden
parachutes. What is amazing is the fact YOU are never accountable nor is it
ever YOUR fault when your own decisions are disastrous.

The Pilot group which has given you all they hold dear is rapidly becoming
aware of the deception and utter lack of integrity from UAL management! I am
disappointed in our weak ALPA leadership and how you have exploited our lack
of strength and unity to fight for our very existence. However, this apathy
on our part may change in light of your most recent abhorrent behavior.
Many of us are ready for war!

I doubt you have a clue just how distressed most of us are. Pilots have
spent years training and educating themselves for what has become an
inconsequential temporary JOB that is not worth the stress and hardship on
ourselves and families! Many are now actively seeking to escape UAL or even
the airline industry all together from what was formerly a respected career.

The presumption there is little you can do to get back on track is absurd.
You have bankrupt UAL, stolen our stock, destroyed our pensions, reduced
our salaries to ridiculous levels, degraded and abused us all, and yet you are
not accountable!?!? I suspect all of this has been a grand plan, but many
of my peers just think you're idiots! The truth is most likely a mix of these
reasons amongst you.

There are just no words to describe the disgust and contempt I hold for all
of you. I will forever be unwilling to trust or even listen to the drivel
you unscrupulous nitwits infect this company with! Ironic you keep your
pensions while you continue to slash and burn your most important asset;
All the people who once made United great!

Sincerely,

The letter I sent to you please forward to ALL. I still have a job SO FAR,
but I was removed from flight status and sent home while in London UK as per
LAX flight manager, Joe Noval. He and I don't like each other and have had
problems in the past. I'm told a flight was cancelled because of this mess,
but I can't confirm it. My ALPA rep is handling it now and it looks like a
psyche evaluation is coming this week. More will probably happen Monday
when all the suits get back into the office. I will update as things unfold.
I am in the middle of this sh!t storm, but you can help by informing your
contacts. If they fire me, I will try to go to the media as this pension crap
is being watched closely.
Thank you for your support

A friend suggested I might be too traumatized and embarrassed by what
the flight office has done to me. I might need to take the summer off. Also,
if you guys are willing, get as many as possible to copy my letter, sign your
own names to it and all send them in while on a trip and they will have to
pull everyone off at the same time. We'll see what happens tomorrow first.

Remove all references to United and this letter could be addressed to several other CEO's, etc.

Bingo !! The only problem is that nothing will change.

I am sure the prisoners in Nazi Germany thought the same thing, but you never know unless you try. We as pilots endured great struggles and sacrifices to have a chance at this career, why are we not willing to stand up now and fight to save it?

I understand how frustrated this guy is. No, now that I've said that, I realize there's simply no way I could begin to comprehend the breadth and depth of his frustration. I am indeed fortunate to not be in those shoes. While I can not empathize, I certainly sympathize.

That being said, I question the prudence of burning down the bridge in front of you while you burn down the one behind you. It seems to me the two-pronged attack on UAL management and UAL ALPA leaves him in a bit of a tight spot. For one, it makes him look more like an angry person, and less like a rational critic of the management practices. Second, it endangers the support he'll likely need from his collective bargaining agent. I hope the "ALPA rep" isn't too insulted by the slam on ALPA leadership.

"Psyche" eval? Even if it's a psychological evaluation, I'd hope there is some mechanism in place that prevents all vocal management critics from being subjected to psychological evaluations.

Because there is no solidarity whatsoever between us...or very little. Remember those United + 1 stickers on Delta bags ? This was one of many examples of "I earn more than you, sucker" ...

Oh , who said I was bitter...

Should have been more specific. I mean that the nature of management will not change.

Common letter of fustration, which is a result of expectations not met, the feeling of not being in control and fear of the unknown.

Pilots can fly jets.....really well. And that is about it within this airline industry.

Air Line Pilots do not run airlines. We are entirely dependent on management to take care of ourselves and our families. Just as the pax are entirely dependent on us.

Even the senior most B747 Capt is helpless.

This letter screams; I am scared. I don't know what is going to happen and I am not in control. I have to feel like I am doing something so I'll write this letter. The author even jokes about still being employed. Managment has no concern for such letters, they are valueless vitrol. Going after a pilot for free thought is a waste of time. And a land grab for any lawyer...

I'd be embarrassed to send or even write this letter. Slamming both management and ALPA makes one an island.

But it makes him feel better and maybe stops the vomiting.

He!!, it might have an angle at disability......hmmmmm.

I have to agree with Rez. No matter how ugly things get and no doubt this guys has valid and justifiable arguments, you can never allow yourself to become an example or hostage in a union/management struggle.

My guess is they will put this guy through a major ordeal. Hopefully ALPA will do all it can, but those fitness for duty issues get very sticky.
