I understand that both pilots are typed on the equipment - are the empty legs flown under part 91 or is everything 135? Do any of you SICs log PIC time for legs flown in the left seat?

here we go again...

Nearly all ferry legs are 91. The exception would be ferries associated with 135 flights out of the country.

As for flight time logging, when the company sends you your logbook, only the legs where you were designated the PIC on the release will be recorded as PIC time. Of couse, this can only be after your upgrade and then only when you are the more senior pilot.

Now, before you jump up and down about FAR 61.51 realise that that only pertains to the logging of flight to for the purpose of meeting the qualifications of a higher certificate or rating. That's all the feds are concerned with. When you come to EJA you already have your ATP and the company just wants to show its pilots are maintaining currency.

Yes, I filled out my app years ago with a bunch of sole manipulator time. They didn't care then as long as you had the $9k that the job cost. I doubt they'd care now. When you start flying here, they don't care what you put in your own logbook; it's your own business.

The question then becomes why you'd want to log SIC time as PIC time? You're only going to have to explain it at your next job interview assuming you'll be so lucky!

If your Typed and your at the controls on a 91 flight >>> thats PIC time. Its basic part 61 regs.

If its a 135 flight... the operator must list the PIC, Therefore you would be the SIC if someone else was listed as the PIC

You can put whatever you want in your logbook. What you use to demonstrate qualification for a higher rating or what a prospective employer considers PIC in an entirely different matter. Pulling out FAR 61 ain't gonna do you any good when the interviewer tells you you filled out the application incorrectly. Others have gone down this path before; it's a deadhorse to quote Moisture.

FAR pt 61 makes no distinction as to the flight being 91,135,141,121,125 etc. Like Wakefiled says, it governs the flight time you log to prove your qualifications for a specific rating. If your prospective employer is dumb enough to count that as PIC, bully for you!
