Having been in a serious money crunch and forced to stop flying after 9/11, I was pretty much forced to sell my equipment last year to keep from living in my car (not joking :( ). I'm finally able to jump back in but I'm still having to scrounge to get everything together and have enough money to fly till I can get a part-time job. Lots of us here in this same boat, it seems. :)

Posting about used headsets wanted, I got a link from SkyKing to the Marv Golden site and saw a heckuva deal on their 'Golden Eagle' line of headsets, which claimed a weight of 11 oz. and a noise reduction of 24db for $79. It looked alot like one of the Lightspeed passive lines, so I figured it was probably made the same place and worth taking a chance at that price.

I have discovered that it is, indeed, made by Lightspeed (that's where you send it for warranty work), that it is VERY comfortable, fits my Frankenberry head perfectly, and is crystal clear. Really .. just a terrific pair of cans, especially considering the price. The Lightspeed version of this set, the Solo 55 I think, sells for about $150. So for about half of that price I get a pair that sounds just as good and clear, and filters just as well as the David Clamps I've worn previously, feels lighter than my 4DLXs did, and fits and sounds WAY better than my Sigtronics half-cup, and the Sigtronics full cup and ASA sets at the flight school. In a word ... awesome!

I know many will say I'd have been better off financing a pair of Bose Xs or whatever ANR set is hot right now, but I can't really justify that, and judging from the PMs and emails I've gotten I'm not alone. For the next broke-ass pilot looking for a good, yet inexpensive headset ... take a look at the Golden Eagle jobbies. Not bad at all for under a hundred bucks. :)

Edit - I forgot to add that you can get gel-filled replacement cups made specifically for this model for $20, and the next model up at $119 has a cell-phone adapter, too.

Edit ... the bag it comes in is kinda cheesy. But for $79 ... screw the bag. :D

Snakum,

Sorry to hear about your hardship(s) and misfortunes over the past few years. The Golden Eagle line will probably get the job done, Warren Gregoire and Assoc. always advertise the AIR-680 model for $59.95 but don't know really anything about "how well" it works. I would also suggest possibly looking on Ebay since you can get a relatively nice/newer headset at somewhat of an inexpensive price tag. If you are looking for something to just get the job done then I would probably spend as little as possible at these early stages of the ball game.

Or>> Just possibly Mr. AAflyer (GOD) can come down from the heavens and offer his Godly advice, or better yet a miracle or "somehting" along those lines may happen and one will appear before our very eyes?

ROFLMAO!

:D :D :D

With utmost reverence, as is appropriate for my station in life ... my meager existance, way below His Blessedness ... I humbly await His word from on high concerning headsets, union politics, and mating habits of the common salt-marsh loon.

LMAO :D

I am starting to see ""somehting" in the way of that "sign" with Angels singing on high. His holiness must be doing confessions now or performing those AA miracles.
