I'm pretty sure Sully would be insulted by the insinuation that he is a non-conformist cowboy...what rules did they "subvert" in this situation? THEY did a fine job in a bad situation, yet the title of the article is "My Aircraft"? Why the vast bio on Sully and not the FO? What was his name again? Oh wait, nobody cares.
Automation did not take out much of the "actual flying" in the business...what the heck does that even mean, "actual flying"?? Were they hand-flying 747s across the atlantic before? I use the stick and rudder every day i go to work on one of those "computerized" airplanes.
this article is full of glib generalizations that don't mean spit. the job isn't what it once was because us pilots didn't stand up for ourselves...not because of automation or lack of available military pilots. How heroic are we that none of us went on strike when they took away everything these past years?
