The answer is it was not a worldwide shutdown. In fact there were still some very limited civilian flights allowed in the US. Things like air ambulance, Civil Air Patrol and other relief flights. Exact details of who and how they were approved I do not know but I know the air ambulance helicopter did not stop flying where I lived at the time. (not to mention the military planes that still flew)

I'll just stick to answering the question. To be technical, there were flights around the world that were grounded, but it was only those flights who were headed to the U.S. I am not sure about other U.S. airlines that were flying between points outside of the U.S. As others have said all flights here were grounded except for the military, ambulance and maybe a couple of others. I can't remember about Canada or Mexico, but Canada did house many aircraft headed for the United States at several of their airports, just not sure if Canada also shut down their airspace. Foreign airlines that did not originate or have destinations here did still fly.

Anyways, learn to recognize sarcasm. Not everything is so black and white. Read my other posts and you'll understand the quotes chucklehead.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with the whole patriot/citizen/subject nonsense. Obviously you must have served your country to make such judgements?
