The 787 cockpit on the initial concept was just plain ugly. As I predeicted, they've fixed it and replaced it with more conventional, and no doubt more producable transparencies. She's quite the handsome airplane now. The splash screen at the website now reflects the redesigned cockpit windows,

I knew that slant window post wasn't going to last. I didn't need a room of CAD supercomputers to tell that slant post would block a good part of the side view.

Now if we could just get a glass nose like the old Russkie birds, set right in front of a nice Lazyboy for relaxing crew breaks.

Still a break from the usual though, whens the last time Boeing did a 4 window cockpit on a commercial airliner. I think it looks good and more realistic now. It'll be the best looking Boeing built yet

They lamed it down a bit - too bad. Even if the swoopy lines and shark fin performed no aerodynamic purpose, they should have left them. That's the kind of inspiration that Boeing has lost - they are afraid of making it look "too modern" while the rest of the world sees Boeing as too conservative and old-school.

At least that's my BS theory.

Not really on-topic, but since you're mentioning bullet trains - and I think that the 500 series Shinkansen is soooo cool.

I walk through South Station in Boston on my way to work each day. The absence of Acela trains is quite noticeable (they just pulled them all out of service for brake rotor cracks, and it will take months for Bombardier to supply enough replacements). Back to sloooooowwww Metroliner and conventional train service until June. You're in no danger of losing your job to Amtrak.

BTW, at the risk of causing further thread drift (and inviting flames), the Acela trains are Bombardier products. Having read some of the comments in this forum regarding Bombardier corporate jets (NOT FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE), it seems that the less than sterling product support from Bombardier is about par for the course.
