I have a few family members asking me why COA cancelled 75 flights yesterday (Friday), one of them was theirs (EWR-STL). They were told their flight was cancelled due to bad WX along the route.

I'm finding it hard to believe that many flights were cancelled. Does anyone know if that number of cancellations was correct?

Thanks in advance...

Correct from what I understand. It doesn't take much in Newark to cause massive delays and cancellations. I was supposed to fly LEX-IAH on friday with an 1820 departure but the inbound from EWR didn't arrive until 1850.

Friday afternoon/evening was very bad here in NY. We were holding for all the NY metros and due to the length of the holds had a few A/C declare minimum fuel including one flight that advised us he only had 20 minutes of fuel remaining. The storms weren't so much over the fields, but many of the west gates were shut down, ZDC was out of room holding. It was a bad night, maybe the worst this summer.
