Hi,

Does one need to have an ATP Certificate in order to get a 737-300 type rating?

You're in luck, with "space shuttle" time they waive the ATP requirement.

Furthermore, a B-737 type is a B-737. Makes no difference if you are flying a B-737-100 for the type ride or a B-737NG. It still just says B-737 on your ticket.

Your question seems to say you know someone without an ATP who is contemplating a 737 type rating ?

If so, I'm not sure how much value there is in a type rating on a commercial ticket these days. Anyone operating a 737 will most likely require an ATP. So, wait until they have the requirements and take the ATP and type ride together to get max bang for the buck.

"Oh, yeah and the -300's are not EFIS equipped."

I beg to differ. It all depends upon the original buyers' specs. I currently fly 4(four) different EFIS equipped -300's.

I stand corrected. Thanks
