Boeing announced today they're not going to cancel it. Apparently there's alot more interest in the airplane than realized so hopefully some orders on the horizon.
In today's Chicago Trib, Boeing reports that they are slowing production to one 717 a month. At that rate Midwest Express might take deliveries in a decade or so. However, that may be too much movement for the ME management to handle. The business section also says ME is looking at the A318. Didn't they play this silly game a few years ago?
