Did the 707 when it was being used by airlines require its engines be started at the gate, since most of them without APU's needed external power and pneumatics?

While there were 707's with APU's, these were not typically used by airlines. The B707, DC8, CV880 all needed an external air source for starting. Some B707's had a compressed air tank that could be used for starting one of the inboard engines and then the remaining engines were started via a crossbleed start. Some 707's used Freon for air conditioning and other just had air cycle machines for cabin air conditioning.
