Which side had the experimental prop? Hard left turn at altitude, with an extreme descent rate and the left engine and wing eventually shearing off, sounds like like maybe the left prop went into reverse. Who knows.

RIP.
 
No suprise to me. The airframe is a pile of shat when it come to spar issues. Either the tail fails off (AD issued to correct it) or the wing falls off (another AD issued). Time to retire the airframe a-la-starship before it kills again.

RIP, crew. My condolences to the family.

but the Starship was not retired for safety issues. All 52 airframes were still intact. Just no support. Also, It was the manufacturer who chose to park the Starship.

If they are not going to ground the MU-2, I doubt they will ground the Turbo Commander.

I am curious about the idea of 5 blade props. There was a B-100 in our area that had 5-blades for a while, and then the next thing I know it is in the shop getting the entire tail area rebuilt and and 4-blades put back on it. The mechanics said thre were cracks in several places that they believed were caused by vibration.

I would be surprised if both props werent 5 bladed.
 
Both props were indeed experimental 5 blade units. News last night said that the pilot reported static on his radios just before the accident. No other trouble was reported.
 
Why would that be so doubtful? If I remember correctly, there's at least one King Air model that has 331's on it.

Because the B-100 had 331's on it. The Walther engines were put on PT-6 powered 90's. Very different. The PT-6 and the Walther are very similar. The 331's are not. Yhe only reason the 331's were put on the B-100 was due to a strike at Pratt & Whittney.
