112 New Pilot Jobs Were Created in December
and 6,479 for 2008!

AIR, Inc. estimates that 2009 will bring 5,000 new jobs!

Say what?

Is he substacting those hired and then furloughed?... I think not!

I find that very hard to believe; a. that just includes 121 airlines b. that takes into account all the furloughs/companies shutdown. c. more likely factoring a and b it's probably a number well below zero.

We pilots are such suckers for punishment- aren't we one of the few professions where new hire wannabees will fork out big bucks to attend job fairs- even during boom times for that matter. Unthinkable in IT or healthcare, where the employers will surely pick up all of the job fair's tab. Kit Darby will keep making a killing whatever the airline hiring cycle- good gig.

IF and that is a BIG if, there were that many new pilot jobs in 2008. I HUGE percentage of them were pilot jobs that USED to be mainline and are now regional.

Unfortunately 10,000 + good paying mainline jobs were outsourced to low wage, minimum benefits regional pilot jobs.

I'm sure that number is very close to reality.

Worldwide there probably were that many new pilot jobs in 2008.

To include:

- Flight Instructors

- Banner towers

- Helicopter Pilots

- Seaplane / Scenic Ride Pilots

- Hong Kong Plastic Dog Sh!t Flyers

Etc., etc., etc.

These are all pilot jobs, and some fun and rewarding ones at that.

I don't think Mr. Darby is stretching the truth in any way.

We can't ALL be Airline ( Whoop-De-Frickin'-Dooo ) Pilots.

Been there. Done That.

I'm off to find my next: "Pilot Job". ( Que really dramatic music. )
