Well...they let someone who was legally pronounced a jackass fly, even without a waiver, so why not?

How true, they let you fly even though you're a total idiot AND Jackass, atleast that's what you typed.

they can only trace this if you are collecting disability insurance? Or can they trace you have been to a shrink by viewing your medical visits covered by your health insurance company?

Anytime a third payor party is involved, the insurance company will track the info forever, that is why you pay cash if you don't want anybody to find out about it.

The news article said they were charged with lying on a government application. That's the crime. Doesn't say anything about being disabled and flying was the crime. If you claim disability and get paid without lying then you didn't do anything wrong. If you then fill out an application for a medical and say nothing ever happened to you and that you have never been disabled, then there's the lie. The article makes it sound like we have all these disabled pilots flying and that's why they were charged, because that sells papers. The crime is lying and falsifying a government document, maybe a technicality to some, but still a crime.

Speaking of which, I can't believe the America West pilots got 5 years and 2 1/2 years in prison, when a drunk driver can kill a family and get nothing.
