4 year degree question???

Ignorance. There are plenty of legitimate online degrees out there. For example: Penn State has Bachelor's degrees that are entirely online from its World Campus, but what is written on the degree AND transcript for every Penn State degree is identical. Tell me that if you were hiring somebody and the only requirement was to have a degree from a regionally accredited institution, you would say screw the guy with the Penn State World Campus degree? How would you even know that it was from the online campus if they don't write which campus it was from on the paper?

Secondly, I have a B.S. in General Business from Excelsior College, its accredited by the same regional body that Penn State, Columbia, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, etc. (Middle States)

I have never had any question about the origin of my education or its quality. Just because the school is accredited by a recognised body, people expect them to follow the standard.

I know I studied my ass off for one. The main benefit of my degree was the ability to get it done so fast by working at my own (blazingly fast, might I add now that I look back) pace, not having to sit through classes an hour a week for 16 whole weeks.

I totally agree, I have the same degree from Excelsior, I was able to complete credits at my own pace, did not have to waste time with break this, recess that, this holiday, that holiday, my god the traditional system is set up to waste your life.

I did know someone however who "purchased" a fake degree in one week, he's now a Southwest captain, go figure.

200 years ago, the purpose of university was to prepare those who attended, whoever they were, (mostly social elite) the wordly ways of conducting business, whatever that business maybe.

It prepared students to handle what the world had to offer... A broad brush...

In effect it was designed to refine, polish the person so they can deal with each other in the building, maintaining and controlling of the society. ie the power players....

Fast Forward to todays society.... degrees today are anything but broad brush. They are either specific or incredible specific. Once a student is awarded a degree their job description and abilities are very specfic. One can't take a degree in a specific study and get a job in something totally different. (well maybe)

Degrees today are the same in our society.. competitive businesses. It is all about the dollar and checking the box on the application.

So if one can do it on line and the university doesn't have to pay for a facility. Why not. Besides, I am not sure how an on line degree from Penn State would be considered weak...??
