Woah...I soloed a Coast Guard Academy cadet last week...with 4.8 hours.... This guy was amazing, I had to bounce the airplane on him so he could recover when he was solo... he didn't bounce it at all with me...talent.
Nice work, but it is really impossible to complete all the training required prior to solo in 4.8 hours. And if he did have the skill to safely solo in 4.8 hours with you, he must have had prior training somewhere.
Soloing students in under 8 hours is risky even if they can do the job. The problem is that if he does have an accident sometime in the next 25-hours the student's family will be told it was all your fault because of your ego to solo the student quickly. They'll hire an expert to say how this can not be done in 4.8 hours and then you're toast for the legal system. Of course, if you're a typical CFI with no money then no problem except for the guilt of thinking that maybe more training could have prevented the accident.
4.8 hours, wow! I'm not saying that the guy/gal is not a good stick. Some people are just born with it. You still have to look at what you endorsed. Remember when you sign someone off to solo you are putting your cert's and ratings on the line too.
Thought the same thing Undaunted did when I read that. This guy has bragged about a number of things on here in the past. Never thought he'd mention violating FAR's as something to be happy about. The whole born to fly bit is a bunch of crap anyway. Throw a 15 knot crosswind in on this 4.8 hour wonder and we'll see how much of a natural he is.
