Its also going to require the moving of a decent amount of homes. There are also a number of business on West Blvd that would now be within the perimeter of the airport...should be interesting to see what happens. I didn't realize CLT was in need of a third runway. I've never been more than number 6 or 7 in line for takeoff.

I was based in CLT. They do need a 3rd runway. There were times we had to wait over 1 hour taxing until we were able to reach the runway. Early morning was almmost impossible getting in CLT without a hold.
It will be a long taxi, but it will keep traffic flowing. I rather have a long taxi than hold.

It looks similar to the the setup in IAH. Have fun with that.

You've obviously never been to CVG...

I lived in Charlotte growing up, and they've been talking about that 3rd runway for well over a decade. I'd be surprised if it actually happens.

they already started clearing the land.

Seems like CLT doesn't need more runways, it needs more taxiways. That ramp is a HUGE clusterf**k when anybody is pushing from B, C or D...

hmmm.... That sounds a lot like Philly too.

PHL needs a better runway layout MUCH more than CLT does...that place goes to hell in a handbasket when they switch to an east operation while CLT is still running parallel approaches.

The third runway would not be necessary if CLT had decent controllers. Have done multiple go-arounds there in clear weather and I dont even fly for a US Airways carrier. I guarantee there'd be no hour-long taxiis or some of the other problems that have been mentioned if controllers from the likes of NY and Chicago ran the show in CLT. It tops my list of airports that does the least with most resources (runways, airspace, ramp area, etc.). And now they want to build another runway?

I've gone around on a clear day in CLT before...but that was because an AA S80 took over a minute to go from "cleared for takeoff" while in position and holding to rotating. But you're right though, the controllers don't have the patience (nerves) of controllers at LGA, DCA, ORD, etc...

i was talking to a former controller at clt and he mentioned that after the 3rd parallel is complete they may shut down either 36R or 36L (i cant remember which one) and extend it to 12,000 ft. this is all speculation though

But have you done the "double downwind" at 170kts by the highest paid center controllers?
