I remember one night landing when I was working on my private where I didn't even flare. One of my old bad habits was that I wouldn't trim off control pressures enough during landing, so I had way too much nose-down trim dialed in. Being at night, I misjudged the flare. I then cranked back on the yoke only to find, well, nothing much was happening with the airplane out of trim. Suffice to say, the plane touched down very unhappily with a loud thud.
