Are 3 button suits appropriate for and interview? It was always a two button but they are hard to find and are out of style for the mainstream.

Thoughts?

I wore a 3 button 6 years ago and got hired. Not a suit expert or fashion expert, but seems like I remember they were coming in to fashion then and I wore it. If you can't find 2 buttons out there, I'd take the hint that they are out of style. Bottom line though, wear what makes you feel comfortable. Plus, I sure wouldn't ask pilots what to wear. Have you seen most of these guys on overnights? Can we please get rid of the boat shoes and the weaved belt? :D

I interviewed 2 months ago in a 3-button (and got hired) at SWA. Personally though, I think you're stressing over minutia with things like this!

2-button is the classic suit and will never go out of style. The 3-button is more "stylish," because it's a bit more form fitting and a bit trendier. Try not to ask for advice at Men's Wearhouse. Go to a Brooks Brothers or local high end tailor and ask.

Oh yeah, and the bright blue short sleeved shirt is in style.

I asked for fashion advice at the Mean's Wearhouse in Ft. Lauderdale and came out looking like a wise guy. I did look sharp though.

Forget the third button. A top hat and a monacle are what you need to truly impress the interview board.

3 button suits have always been stylish and the norm in Europe. 2 buttons here because we have to be different. 3 buttons look better and the interviewer couldn't give a rats ass.

Just don't......

wear a lime green leisure suit. It may be retro, but it ain't coming back anytime soon.

Good luck and see you Weds. with the 3 buttons!!!

Fashion tip: :pimp:

Just remember, 2 or 3 button, don't button the bottom one. Pimpin ain't easy.

The Look

I recommend just wearing a thong.................Wear a London Fog until you are in front of the interview board......Then show them your qualifications. The Sim evaluation goes better with just a thong also.

I agree. Just be careful when unlatching the shoulder harness. It really pulls on the chest hair and you have a tendancy to graze a nipple. Also, be VERY CAREFUL when unlatching the lap belt. "A friend of mine" was trying to be cool, reached down and "popped" it loose. BIG MISTAKE!

Classical style that will never be cheesy:

Dark blue or charcoal suit (subtle pin stripe optional) $400-1100
- No tans, olives, or any other hip derivatives
White shirts ($25-35 each)
- no blues, pinks, greens, yellows

It might seems at little old school but you will never be embarassed for the next 20 years and it will last that long too. Buy 2 suits for $225 and a $15 shirt and guess what you got . . .what you paid for.

It might seem like a lot of money and it is if you only wear it once, but if you get several years out of it your overall costs is not that high. Plus don't forget the confidence factor of going with quality. I invested over $2000 in A and B suits, when I didn't have the extra money and I never regretted it. If you can't go with 2 suits for 2 day interviews go with 2 very different ties. EVERYONE shows up in a red tie, which is okay, but consider a gold or strong blue.
