Could somebody please tell me the 3/6 rule? I know that altitude to lose X 3but I don't know what the 3/6 Rule is. thanks in advance

every 3-6th round in the belt is a tracer.

This may not be it, but if you have DME available but no Groundspeed readout(don't know what system that would be nowdays) you can cound your DME distance for 36 seconds and add a 0 to get your groundspeed.

So if you travel 3.2 miles in 36 seconds, your groundspeed is 320KTS.

Level at 25000 to cross XYZ at 10000.

25000-10000=15000 drop the last three 000's so you have 15
15 X 3 = 45
Start your decent 45 miles from XYZ. Use your ground speed to determine your rate od decent.
GS 500 knots...drop the last 0 to get 50, divide by 2 to get 25 add two 00's to get 2500FPM decent to cross XYZ at 10000.

I have know idea what the "/6" part is. Hope that helps.

3/6 = 1/2

Half of the postings on FI are BS. The other half you have to look real close to see any truth.....

36 rule, 3 times the altitude to loose, 6 times your groundspeed for the decent rate to do it.

Level at 350, need to cross ABC fix at 250

10,000 feet to loose.

3 * 10 = 30 miles from ABC

450 knot ground speed

6 * 450 = 2700 FPM

So all things being perfect if you instantly start a 2700 FPM decent at 30 miles from ABC fix, you will cross it at 250. As you descend and you ground speed changes you just adjust your FPM for the change.

It's the newest trend in Airline Management

If you have been there for over 3 years.....
You have 6 months to pack your stuff.

First 3 minutes of flight and last 6 minutes of flight can be most hazardous to your health if you screw something up.

don't forget to increase the rate of descent with a TW

The rule of thumb uses your *groundspeed* with your multiplication factor. Your groundspeed is already affected by the head/tailwind. The rate of descent you calculate will already be higher since your tailwinded groundspeed will be higher already.

You also need to factor in distance needed to slow down if your given a speed restriction. Usually about a mile per 10 knots straight and level so if you need to slow from 300 to 250 you need to level 5 miles prior to your fix.
