After nearly a four-year drought of job openings, the airline industry is on the brink of what's predicted to be the biggest surge in pilot hiring in history. Aircraft maker Boeing has forecast a need for 466,650 more commercial pilots by 2029 — an average of 23,300 new pilots a year. Nearly 40% of the openings will be to meet the soaring travel market in the Asia-Pacific region, Boeing predicts, but more than 97,000 will be in North America.

But just 97,000 in the U.S.

That's about 5,400 per year and 450 per month.

Including all carriers, from biggest major to smallest regional, that's pretty paltry.
 
In 1989 the Dean of our Aviation department told a room full of freshly minted flight instructors (I included) that there will be a looming pilot shortage when the Veitnam era pilots retire.

Now it looks like it is finally here just in time for runaway inflation and the eventual collapse of the dollar.

I should have been a $^**%# plummer...

Its not too late to be a plumber...I got the boot from NetJets and have been crawling in other peoples crap since I was f-lowed. Home every night and making plenty more than if I were online still. I miss flying a lot, but the other BS........not so much!

If I ever go back to netjets, I will have my own company and flying both. Make the move, Theres more to life than a crappy flying job!

You didn't see the shortage in late 90's-9/11?
