The normally flamboyant Summerfest director Bo Black sat stone-faced Friday as the festival's board voted 14-7 to fire her from the job she has held for 19 years.

Summerfest board president Howard Schnoll said the board felt, having conducted an employee survey, that the festival organization "needed new leadership."

He said he would be convening a board meeting soon to begin the process of finding a new executive director.

"We will be conducting a national search," he said.

Schnoll said he did not know whether the board would be willing to hire Black as a consultant, a possibility Black had said she would pursue if her contract was not renewed.

Her salary this year was $206,686.

Summerfest is a 10 day civic event and this lady was getting $206K a year to manage it. Hahaha...not bad work, if you can get it.

...heard she was heading up pilot recruitment at Mesa now. :D
