Hey Belliot,

I ran into a girl on one of my stops the other day who said she loved the American accent, You're In!!!!!!

With the working visa it really does work both ways (I know because I looked into it prior to getting married). To get work/immigrant visa's in either country you basically have to marry a local or change careers........ 6 and 1 or half a dozen I say.

No, that's the problem...Aussies can work here fairly easily, but it's next to impossible for a yank to get hired to fly for anyone in Australia!

Not completely true. It isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination once again it's all about timing. There are plenty of guys over here working for QANTAS from both the US and Canada and not all of them are residents (married to an Aussie). If they can't find enough pilots to fill the slots here then they have to get guys from overseas and it's alot easier to find qualified guys in the US seeing as there is alot of opportunity to find guys with time on their types (B737, B747, B767 etc).

To everyone who supplied information and advice thank you very much it's a huge help.

To the guys who didn't. If you ever come to Australia and need a place to stay let me know. I'll happily roll out the red carpet and help anyone who's not a ******************************bag (spelling??) no matter where they are from.

Thanks again folks.

I guess it's all relative, and I can only speak from my experience...long story short, always thought Australia was a beautiful place and had a couple of good connections at QANTAS. The problem was, at the time there was no way for me to get a visa to work there...maybe things have changed in the mean time?

Horizon has a flow-through to Qantas?

staylow,

With wages of up to 500k (sometimes more) a year tax free with emirates I don't think they need to go to the effort of recruiting in specific countries. and a large chunk of the guys they recruit are from the US. Same goes for Cathay Pacific.

Huh? Dirhams maybe, but not dollars. And that's for the most senior captains. You can see the pay scale at:

http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/airlines/international/emirates.html

Good luck with your job search.

Sorry about your situation...doesn't change the fact you are not a citizen and you are coming over here to try and take job flying which could mean another person who is a citizen looses out. If the immigration process is way too much to go through you should stay in Australia.

Wow. You really put the "arrogant" in American.

stay low,

dude what makes you think that I am trying to TAKE jobs away from americans??

my (american) wife needs to come back to the US to finish up her degree so what do you suggest I do?? I'm a pilot and I fly planes why shouldn't I have a shot at it over there? it's up to the hiring panel of an airline to give me a job.

In future unless you have something productive to say just keep it to yourself. Pretty low to think I'm trying to pinch jobs from you guys I know how hard this industry can be and I wouldn't dream of sending another guy out on the street because of me. You've gotta do what you've gotta do.

By the way... the immigration process is way too much to go through just to chase work.

He's stealing our jobs AND our women!!!
