Can someone chime in on why everyone is so antsy about this 2007 Hiring Boom that's suppose to take place??
What exactly is gonna create all these flying jobs? I beleive things will still be just as moderate as they are now with just as many pilots clawing for the same coveted corporate, and major gigs that are around now?
Will the retirements be in such abundance as predicted?

Just pay Kit Darby a couple hundred dollars and he will blow sunshine up your @$$ about the hiring boom.

Do yourself a favor and save your money and network on this board and others like climb to 350.

Unless you really want to whore yourself out for bottom feeders like Mesa at his "job fairs".

Make this a career and not a hobby, don't fly for pennies and keep your sense of self worth intact in this industry.

Ask PilotYip about the 2007 hiring boom. From some of the numbers I've seen it does seem that there will be a lot of retirements, mainly from the baby boomers gettin old. Run a search on retirement numbers, I know the exact numbers have been posted before.

Years ending in 7's always have more jobs than years ending in 3's. Do not change jobs in year ending in 9 or 0. Been that way since Moses came down the river in a basket.

I think you mean "since Moses came down the airway in a Douglas".

Large retirement numbers don't always equate to senority list movement. I've moved up 3019 numbers at DAL in the last 4 1/2 years and I just got my job back last month and have a padding of 21 folks below me.

Congrats on getting back - how is it? One buddy isnt happy - the other is flying his butt off. I want to get back..that's all.
When were you furloughed?

retirements don't necessarily mean the airlines automatically are going to hire fresh bodies to replace old ones (no pun intended), especially in light of the RJ jets "taking over" and other economic related things

for the hiring boom to occur in 2007, the furlough boom needs to start to recover first

I left my last job in a year that ended in a 0. In fact it ended in 3 0's. It worked out just fine.

Johnny Cash says, "We're all gonna get fat, come picking time!"

Yes Clyde you are exception to the rule, there are always exceptions, but if you left for NWA, USA, UAL, DAL, you may have found the "0" rule applies.

MCwilly, what defines a boom? 3 times 2003, 5 times 2003, 10 times 2003, hiring a majors only, hiring at majors and nationals? What defines a boom? I posted the 2007 hiring boom back in 2003 based upon what was happening in 2003, all the signs are there that it is coming.

Ok, let me say that I'm no fan of Kit Darby at all....with that said, he was 100% right about the hiring boom of the late 90s early 2000. Unfortunately, 9/11 screwed everyone, but the facts are that we will see strong numbers in 2007-8. Also, as much as I hate giving Darby money, his career fairs have led to a lot of interviews of friends of mine recently. And none of these were with Mesa.

Take it for what it's worth, and get that 1000 PIC as fast as you can.

pilotyip........I think you got me mixed up with someone else. I didn't say anything about there being a hiring boom.

Hiring boom........no

recalls........yes

There may be a hiring boom in '07 like the one in the late '80's. That didn't do much for the BN, CAL strikers and EAL people but it got a bunch of us out of the commuters.

There are a lot of people like me--mid-40's, furloughed from the bottom of a major that have found a decent job. Why leave a decent job with more security (or at least laterally transferable skills) to return to the bottom of the list at a unstable airline OR start new at $50k AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST?

Me and my contemporaries not taking the recall will contribute to the "boom" of '07.TC

Wait, I thought the only "sign" you needed was the last number of the year? Now there are other factors to consider?

copied from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerology

Numerology is an arcane study of the purported mystical relationship between numbers and the character or action of physical objects and living things.

Numerology and numerological divination was popular among early mathematicians such as Pythagoras, but is no longer considered to be part of mathematics and is now regarded as pseudoscience or quackery by most mathematicians. This is similar to the historical development of astronomy from astrology, and that of chemistry from alchemy.

pilotyip,

If I get furloughed with others at XJT due the CPA renegotiation in 2007, I'm going to come over and shat on your lawn.

:D

I remember when the term hiring boom meant that the major airlines were hiring. With 8000+ on furlough and the regionals growing like wildfire, an old fashion hiring boom is in the next decade, maybe.

Only hiring boom in aviation in the next decade is air traffic controllers. 10,000+. Six digit income fairly soon, good retirement . Just flew with a UND grad and all the money he had in ratings etc.... Starts ATC school next month. getting in early, will gain seniority faster than an F-16 going strait up. Much better future than an aviator in todays world. By the old standard, an airline pilot profession will be a thing of the past sooner than later.
