1st or 2nd class med for 727 chartercapt

hi,

this isn't a hypothetical but a sincere question.

i'm pretty sure a part 121 727 charter capt only needs a second class medical, but i can' believe it.

(i.e. a guy with his own 747 could fly it with a third class)

§121.437 Pilot qualification: Certificates required.


(a) No pilot may act as pilot in command of an aircraft (or as second in command of an aircraft in a flag or supplemental operation that requires three or more pilots) unless he holds an airline transport pilot certificate and an appropriate type rating for that aircraft

An ATP must be accompanied by a FIRST class medical certificate.

What does "charter" have to do with it? An ATP is required to act as PIC uncer 121..domestic, flag or supplemental..and a Class I medical is required for an ATP.

An ATP is required for the operation, therefore, a current Class I is required. The co-pilot and engineer only need a Class II.

That would be because he/she is operating under Part 91 and thus wouldn't need an ATP or a Class I medical.

Part 125

The 72 can be operated on a part 125 certificate and requires only comm license and a class 2. IFL Contract Cargo out of PTK does this.

Supplemental Charter 727/738 is what I fly, yes you need a first class to be captain.
