US Airways Group, Inc. and Embraer Announce Aircraft Order
Thursday February 9, 6:52 pm ET

TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways Group, Inc. (NYSE: LCC - News) and Embraer -- Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA (NYSE: ERJ - News) today announced they have reached an agreement to amend their original aircraft order. Under this agreement, the previous 57 undelivered EMBRAER 170s will be converted into 25 firm EMBRAER 190 aircraft and 32 additional firm EMBRAER 190 aircraft that are subject to reconfirmation by US Airways. The Amendment also includes up to 50 options to other aircraft in the Embraer 170/190 family. Deliveries will resume in November 2006.

The new aircraft will be configured with 11 first-class and 88 coach seats and will be powered by GE CF34-10E aircraft engines. The new agreement is subject to bankruptcy court approval.
"We are excited to bring the superior comfort and advanced efficiency of the EMBRAER 190 into our fleet, and we are particularly pleased that these airplanes will be flown with US Airways mainline pilots and flight attendants," said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker.
"We are honored with US Airways' renewed confidence in our E-Jets family and the opportunity to expand our partnership," said Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer Executive Vice-President, Airline Market.
US Airways and America West's recent merger creates the fifth largest domestic airline, employing 35,000 aviation professionals. Kind of like what you guys(CAL) did in the 80's-90's on the 9. Very impressive(Note Sarcasm)
You guys undercut everyone for a long time. Remember 737 rates at UAL and CAL's rates. You guys were the JetBlue of the time.

While those pay rates SUCK, the important thing is they are on property.

Think long term guys, short term sacrifices will be necessary unfortunately for this profession to regain its footing.

Weren't Jetblue guys bangin thier pots and pans about no one being able to get the 190 for 2 years?? or was it 1? Either way hopefully JB breaks them in so US doesn't have all the same startup issues.

Wow people are already bashing the payrates...that wasn't predictable ( I'm not justifying them).

Is this growth of the total AmericaWest/Us Airways fleet or is this just replacement aircraft for older aircraft already on the property?

I would guess that if they are for growth then US Airways will have to hire eventually- maybe this year? After they go through all of the furloughees and offer them jobs and over half of them turn down the offer because they are already established at other airlines- and with all of the retirements coming in the future- there might have to be some off of the street hiring maybe within the next 2-3 years. Anyone else care to comment?

It is good to hear about the aircraft order and also that the mainline pilots will be flying the 190's.

seriously what did you expect? It was either fly them at JetBlue rates plus a couple percent or else they go to Mesa/AWAC/CHQ. What do you think would be a better outcome for the profession? Our pilot group decided it was better to get them on the mainline property and adjust the rates later rather than lose them forever to express. We have already began working on our next contract so those pay rates could change significantly.

My thoughts exactly. JetBlue and US Airways have at least been able to introduce the 190 to the industry as a mainline aircraft. Your pis.sed now??? How pis.sed would the whiners have been if this would have been marked as an "express" aircraft....I think it would have made your battle that much harder. Good luck on getting the rates up...no one said you didn't have to stand YOUR ground. US Airways and America West never stopped the big boys from getting the big pay before.

You have nothing to explain, congrats for getting them on the property. Like you said, get them onboard and then work on the payrates. Considering what every mainline pilot group has given this is start in the right direction.

Without this flying, you could basically write off mainline domestic operations.

AA

Agreed, everyone is b*tchin 'about holding the line blah blah blah, but it's kinda hard to hold the line when you have umpteen number of contractors that would sell their mother out to get the newest shiny jet blurred between a mainline bird and a regional jet. So what else can you do, but negotiate close or just above industry going rate, (while in BK) Especially doing so, as your watching the 170's get sent over to repukelick. Which btw these rates are 7-10 above them.....

They just pissed, 'cause their current 2 yr upgrade hasn't gone down to a possible 6 months......with the possibility to make 60k left seat of a 90 seat airplane....living the good life...yeaaa yaaa..... There was a post on the regional board from a mesa guy, happy making 75k for the year (which was prob. 10th yr) Uhmmm...I think that was 2nd yr pay at most majors......ahhh the downward spiral...

Another one, I think there's a clause in the contract with repubelick, to be able to buy back the 170's....now that would be the kicker....get them out of the hands of the contractors...let them loose the flying....

HaHa!!! Yeah you got that right. We bent over first, can't argue with you on that.

Hey did you hear that we had a guy named Frank take us into chap 11 in '83. You know what the pilots did, they we on strike. What did the crews at US, and UA do in response to their chap11? Oh yeah they rolled over.

Hey the pilots at EA went out in support of the MX strike in 1989. Did you see what the pilots did over at NW when MX went out, or the US pilots during their MX strike in '93 (yr?) ? Oh yeah they rolled over.

Hey did you see that NW, and DL want to raise the RJ's to 70 seats and up, and outsource that flying? CO has had, and still has a 59 seat limit. And; until recently we have had the best flow through in the industry, bringing large numbers of our Express crews to the Mainline.

There is NOT one group of pilots that is above reproach. So don't start with me you idiot, this is a shi!@#y time, and of course I don't want US to pay the ERJ less than B6! Everyone is right on about the small victory for mainline flying.

Those payrates are not something to be proud of. I'm sure management loves your post with the "!" at the end. Ohhh. I'm so excited. Look what wonderful things U is doing. U ALPA ought to tuck it's tail and keep out of sight.

Probably none....and it could prevent some from being furloughed as B737's leave. At best, it means some guys who were already flying the damn thing but had their jets sold out from under them will see a cockpit again.

To the USAirways guys.......you have endured more crap than any pilot group in history. Three restructurings, the loss of your pension, the lies and deceit from management, and the continued assault on your careers at the hands of the regional carriers that would have continued to feed at your trough......CONGRATULATIONS ON SECURING THIS FLYING FOR YOURSELVES!

Don't worry about the payrates....don't worry what others think. The crybabies on this board are all guys that were hoping you would say no to this flying and therefore by default they would have a shot at it. You have the jets coming your way and you can get what you want at another time.

Gotta love Quantas

I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to the US Airways pilots. After seeing those pay rates for the E-190, it brought tears of joy to my eyes.

Pay rates like that will ensure the solvency of executive bonus plans.

It's hard to face the truth sometimes, but lets face it, we need to retain this incredible talent at the top. If that means a few tens of millions out of the pilots pockets, then so be it.

I can't wait to get on the board of US Airways! So much opportunity! I can't wait to play a little game of whipsaw with the two pilot groups. Anyone want to guess who the low bidder will be?

Place your bets!

Yah, it woulda been easier...but then management couldn't get their bonuses for cutting pay rates....and for outsourcing the flying. Great ideas......

As for recalls, who knows. Not sure where the current staffing levels sit. Have heard they are fat.....and have heard they are short. i think they were short, then with 737's leaving that evened it out. Plus early outs etc etc....think they are evenly staffed??? BUT....the catch here...and the big one is.....min. fleet size will be that which is fleet size 1 yr after emergence from bk. but stay within 80% of current levels. Don't believe the 190's are included in this....but with 105 possible airframes coming. And 90 737's on combined carrier This is after all returns.....might see some more 737's go away....

So, what happens to AWAC (who paid for this flying and have painted many), and Mesa (who didn't pay for it but have a few flying the USAir colors)?? Both of them flying Express until late 2007? I've heard AWAC is going to take over Las Vegas flying for USAir! Mesa is getting nothing but more flying for them.
