Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone out there has a 'training program' that allows the pilot to remove or install an extra seat and comply with part 135.

I just got off the phone with our POI and we need to come up with a program that trains our pilots how to remove and install the extra seat (in our air ambulance configuration).

On occasion, we need an extra seat for a family member or trainee.

My POI also said that an entry must be made in the MX log and the weight and balance must also be adjusted for the additional seat.

I'd like to hear how operators out there are doing this?

Thanks!

As simple as this may seem, if you look in the maintenance manual there probably is a paragraph on seat removal and install. Just copy that, or, if you have it on disc, cut and paste! If it is the same seat all the time, just reference the station (or moment) number and weight in your document. You could easily make up two or three different laminated W&B charts, one without the seat, one with, another if there are common things you put on the aircraft, etc. Have a clip on the seat that you hang the W&B chart on that seat. So when it is installed, the PIC unhooks that chart and uses it. When the seat is removed, that chart is clipped to the seat, so the original W&B chart is still on the plane. No confusion! Sometimes we over think things, trying to be smarter than the feds. Keep it simple!

Good luck

Like Hung Start advised, the Fed is right, takes an engineer to change configs unless you have the program in your manual, the Fed is covering his a$$ and your company's.
