Hey Guys,
I was looking at jumping into the 135 marketplace. Does anyone know if there are lists of 135 ops out there or does anyoen know any specific companies in Houston, Phoenix, Dallas or Omaha? I have family in each city!
Thanks

In Dallas you have several 135 cargo operators, GTA, Telesis, and Ameristar to name a few. GTA and Telesis dont pay anything but are great for getting massive twin time and 135 experience...

You don't wanna work for Telesis. I have a buddy that used to work there, (at Eagleflight now), and he feared for his life on a daily basis. Schedules suck, trips suck, pay sucks, and they have absolutely no idea what maintenence is. Stay away!! Go Airnet or somewhere better.

That list is very out of date (for whatever reason) but here's my 2 cents on that list and Houston charter in general:

American Jet is owned by the guy who owns MillionAir. For some reason they don't like to pay their bills to other charter companies when they broker trips, they pay their pilots crap but the maintenance is decent and the airplanes look well kept (I got a ride in the LR55 once)...

Fletcher really a charter outfit, but Starflite Aviation is based there. Lowest pay on the field (in HOU), very understaffed (everybody flies multiple types) but a great bunch to work with (pilots, dispatch, and maintenance).

Universal doesn't have a charter department (they may broker though?)

I highly doubt Riverside is hiring due to they lost their oil contract over a year ago. That and they fly a GI (yes, 1) that was owned by KISS...that's kinda cool in a way though.

PK went out of business last year (don't get me started on that one)

Tavaero I've only delt with a little but they've been around forever and I've never heard anything overly bad about them.

Gulf Coast - small but well run. They have several contracts that keep them flying all the time. They have some of the highest prices on the field but they still book the trips so that says something.

Charter One - also very well run. (May be best bet for employment right now because they had a few furloughed airline types that got recalled in past months). Professional crews and very clean aircraft. I did a broker trip for them and they have very upscale clients.

Thunderbird - The good 'ole boys on the field. They get the job done but it's a sight when the pilots show up in the Westwind in blue jeans and sport coats with the big belt buckles.

Cockril's got some very nice Lear 45's (they weren't listed on the link) and probably pays the best at HOU.

Also not listed, Western Airways over in Sugarland - they have probably the most airplanes out of everybody and are well run (and well funded) with average pay and a half decent schedule.

I used to fly out of Hobby, so I will throw in my $.02.

Last time I knew, Fletcher didn't have a charter certificate and they were not on anyone elses certificate.

StarFlite, I would be careful there. For one thing they were the operator of the Hawker that went down in Beaumont, TX. As for Riverside, you really don't want to have anything to do with them. The G1 is for sale and JP is a Horse's a$$ in spades.

Charter one uses a lot of contract pilots. I only know of two or three full time pilots with them.

Then there is Air America. Thy use only part time pilots. The owner will push you to fly over gross. In Aspen they rampers call their Lear 25, the LearTruck. That should tell you something.

There are a couple of single plane operators in Hobby also.

Good luck.
