Hello,
Just a quick clarification, and thanks in advance for your help.

If the weather requires that u file an alternate for P135. You must have at least 600-2 if your airport has an ILS and 800-2 if a non-precision. normally ops specs reduce that but in absence of any ops specs that is what u have to have correct.
Also, these 600-2 mins only apply if htere is no other stated alternate mins on the chart like 700-2 or NA when the tower is closed.

Ops Specs are "boiler-plate" throughout the industry. If the company that you are employed by do not have any regarding Alternate Weather mins, I am a little confused.

Can you cite an example? I.E., a/c type and route that you are inquiring? This would help providing a better response to the question.
 
Actually, for the majority of airports served by an ILS with std 200 - 1/2 minimums, the 135 alternate minimums are a little lower. I.e. 400 + 200 = 600, and 1 + 1/2 = 1.5. You can play around with them all day long to find the best mix for your needs, but who has that much time? I know you need to study for it for your 135.293, but realistically if weather is forecasted to be less than MVFR file an alternate that will be above IFR. Just be careful with airports in mountainous areas, where minimums tend to be higher.
 
Also be careful in romote areas. Last week I had to get a ferry permit amended by our PMI to allow me a fuel stop enroute to Nome from Fairbanks, because the two alternates within the standard range on the Navajo where below alternate mins....

Only in Nome, but not a good idea. I've heard that unless you have a chart for 30 knot tailwind in the POH (you don't) you can get nailed.

....of course, everybody else is doing it. It is Nome afterall.
 
I thought that 1-4-1/2-2-1/2 rule is a lot more permissive than the standard 600-2/800-2:

Say, DEN has more than 2 ILSes served by separate approach facilities to different runways and all of them allow for 200 and 1/2.

2-2-1/2 part of the rule would let you use DEN for an alternate when weather is forecast to be (200+200 and 1/2+1/2) = (400 and 1).

That is exactly correct.

I didn't shoot the approach, don't know if anyone did during that period. But I was on a night/IFR ferry permit. So I looked at it as a potential resume changing event. You know that line "No Accidents, No Incidents"

You are definitely smarter than me. I had a couple of "I learned about flying from that" adventures up there, but no real harm done. I still have a ticket and a job, so I get to chalk them up to experience.
