Someone please explain this, my skull must be too thick.

ATP Question 9634

When the weather at PHL goes below the PICs minimums, the flight diverts to ACY. Upon arrival at ACY, EAB 90 is cleared for the ILS RWY 13 approach. The PIC has 89 hours PIC time in the BE 1900. What are the PICs minimums?

A. 700-2
B. 276/18
C. 376/42

Figure 183A, the referenced diagram, shows ILS 13 Cat A-D to be 276/18.

Answer given is C. I understand 135.225 that you have to add 100/24 at the destination, but on this question the filed destination is PHL with an alternate being ACY. So, according to 135.225 the PIC doesn't have to raise the alternate appch mins. What gives?

When you divert to an alternate, the alternate then becomes your destination. You then use the minimums specified on the approach plate plus any additional penalty, in your example,100/2400, applied to "high minimums" pilots. That simple.

Its was a long time since I have thought about 135, but I thougth when you got to your alternate you could use published mins, without having to add high min (100/ 1/5) because you have to land before your run out of fuel.

I'd have to look at the FARs, but same goes for landing distance. The extra runway required (60% rule) isn't required at the alternate, just at the "destination airport".

The 100/24 addition is for planning purposes only and is required for you to use that airport as an alternate, once you have to fly to the alternate, you would fly the normal approach as published.

It does not matter where the approach is being made.TheGOM(GeneralOperations Manual) for 135 and 121 operators supercedetheFAR's if it is more restrictive. A "High Mins" PIC has a penaltyadded to published minimums depending upon the type of approach beingmade. The airport of intended landing must have the publishedminimumsplus the penalty for the PIC to make an approach at thatairport. It doesn't matter where the approach is being made. Sorry forthe words being run together. The edit function is not working properly.
