I was wondering if when you start interviewing at the regionals does it give you a leg up to have the 121 ATP written done before hand? And if so what do you guys suggest that I do to help me prepare for the test. I am using that ASA book(you know the green one). Any imput would be appriciated.

I'd take the test, some palces require it anyways, so might as well.

I did the ASA (green book). Jsut go over the reg questions and a decent portion of the performance ones (like 2 questiosn from each section, jsut so you know the charts). Then take the test. You have done this before, so you will know when your ready for the test.

Once you get hired at a 121 it doesn't expire unless you try to go take your ATP ride Part 91.

What if you were to switch 121s? Do you have to stay with the same one in order to not have the thing expire?

That's a great question. Where are you looking to go?

To be honest, I do not know. Hopefully somewhere here will have the answer.

Get the GLIEM (RED Book) It is a good study tool and it will be useful in the future. Also, the book "EVERYTHING EXPLAINED" advertized on this site is a very useful tool. Good luck to you.

The usual, but leaning towards Sky West.

I took the test as mandatory for my Pinnacle interview. It was a joke and studied old fashioned with the Gleimm book for 6 days and got a 92%. I am a guy that always scored mid 70's on previous writtens. As far as a leg up, it shows a self determination to better yourself and your skills. I do not know if you knew this either, but if you work for a 121 operator during your test, or if you took the test before, they have agreements with the Feds so your test score does not ever expire. Good Luck though

Thank you. Pinncacle is another one that I am looking at, I have a few friends there and they seem pretty happy with the company.

I am sorry, I don't understand this statement....if you get your ATP, you no longer have to worry about the written expiring.

What you say is true, but that wasn't my point.

If you work for an airline(p121), the results don't expire. You can take your ATP ride with the airline with test results that are over 24 months old.

Say you decide not to wait for upgrade at your airline to get your ATP. So you go to a FBO and go to take the ATP ride with a DPE, you will have to have current ATP written exam. (test taken less than 24 months ago)

That is my understanding, the test results are only good (after 24 months) if you work for a P121 carrier. If you try to take a P. 91 checkride you will have to have current test results.

If i'm wrong I know someone will chime in,

That is also the way that I understand it, which is also not a bad idea. There is not a person who really wants to pay an examiner, but at the same time it makes you look better too. But the way that I understand it, that if you took the check ride under Part 91, you do have the 24 cal. mos. to finish. As for Pinnacle, Memphis is really nice, just study as much jet aircraft systems and glass cockpit stuff for the written. Along with high/airspeed and alt. aerodynamics. Needless to say, that test made me it's play thing. Good Luck

No, if you switch 121's your written does not expire. As long you do your airline's approved training program for upgrade you will not have to take it again.

But, if you quit your 121 job and two years have passed since your test and you decide to take it at some school, then you will have to take it over. But if you go to another 121 op and its 3years later and you're going to upgrade then you do not need to take it over.

There, isn't that better. Its a strange reg.

My understanding is as long as your written is still valid (within 24 calendar months of when you took the the exam) when you start day 1 with the company your are good to go. But if your atp written expires (outside the 24 months) and then you leave your 121 airline and switch to another it is no longer valid at your new airline. it had to be valid from the first day of class. It can "expire" on day 2 but you are still good because you started with the company while it was still valid.
