Does anyone know the future plans for the 1108? It seems that they are the first and only union in the fractional industry. Its a great time to get everyone on board with one union representing all fracs pilots. Has there been any discussions about a national fractional seniority list? Or a standard contract for all 1108 carriers?

We have all seen the airline unions and how they have failed in many ways. This is a once in a lifetime chance to start a new industry and new union at the same time. Lets do it right.

wouldn't that be a monopoly? 1108 could make the pay scales whatever they want and the individual companies would have to comply. (keep in mind i know nothing about business or unions)

Actually 1108 may be breaking up. There are a lot of pilots at NJA that would like to break away from the Teamsters and go to an in house union now that there is sufficient size. If this happens I don't know how it will affect union drives at the others or Flight Options already in 1108. From what I've heard the National level of Teamsters is very unresponsive to the needs of fractional pilots and basically all the good done for the pilots has been from their own elected officials and volunteers. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Please stop the voices in my head.

Yea, the 1108 hasnt done anything for the NJ pilots except give them an industry leading contract with work rules unmatched my much of aviation in general. I can see why they would want to go with an "in house" union.

I think you are missing some points. "1108" was formed by a group of NJA pilots under the name of "Strong Union". Those folks were the ones who brought the 2005 contract and the IBB package to fruition. While that was done under the name of the Teamsters, what is being considered is to have our same union local split off from the Teamsters. The thought is that we haven't gotten much from the Teamsters (national) and that perhaps our dues would be better used if we split from the Teamsters and formed a union solely for fractional pilots.

At this time, we are still part of the Teamsters but who knows what tomorrow will bring?

1108 IS the NJ pilots. IBT does nothing for us. Except cash our checks. :angryfire
Time to leave the nest.
BTW, I am keeping my bat.:)

Isn't that what the United Auto Workers do? Negotiate with one Company, and then the rates apply to all.
I am not up to speed on the whole thing, but I do believe the Teamsters have a "Master Contract" for most major trucking companies. So, I don't think it is illegal.

Hung

1108 well take your dues and help Democrats get elected by making donations of your dues to their campaigns, amongst other things. That's good if you're in to Democraps.

That is a big load of crap. Union dues cannot be used for political purposes period. It is against the law. Contributions made by any labor organization come from donations or it is illegal. 1108 does not contribute any money to any political organization, ever, not even by donation.

IBT has never really done much for us. our accomplishments have been largely due to hard work, great leadership and pilot group follow through.

Cutting a $93,000 check to Hoffa monthly for a stupid magazine and use of the horsey logo seems a bit steep to me.

I bet I'm not the only one.

Call it what you will... "breaking up, decertifying, disafilliating, doing the coyote"... I like to think of NJA pilots creating an In House Union the next logical step in the transformation of this industry.

To pay 1 million in annual dues to IBT for NOTHING in return except the afore mentioned is a bit too pricy.

$1 MILLION and rapidly approaching $3 MILLION a year. I submit based on wage increases and future growth and integration(s) the IBT would capture $4 MILLION a year off the top in 2015.

Transparency and disclosure are critical to a strong and successful labor organization. The pilots should always set the agenda/course and good leadership should make sure we cross the finish line.

The reason the NJA Union has been so successful is due to our leadership. The president and board are amazing. Teamsters National are EXCELLENT at taking our money though.....nuff said !
