Does anybody know if it's necessary to list employment with a carrier that does not exist anymore (sun pacific, tower air, etc) on your 10 year background check? There's nobody home to confirm employment. Maybe list them and then write out of business.

List everybody, even if they're out of business. You may optionally want to provide a contact number for someone who can verify employment (even a coworker).
 
If a company has went out of business PRIA requires that they still send them a request for records and that they recieve the letter back saying "unable to deliver." Now as far as this actually happening is a entirely different discussion.
 
Or sometimes the airline will require copies of paystubs or W-2's from a defunct employer.
