I lost my flight instructor, former co-worker, but most importantly a mentor and friend last night. I didn't find out until this afternoon shortly after one of my own flights. Tomorrow will be a hard day while I continue to be able to do what he loved so much, and what he taught me to do. Please remember the victims of this tragedy, and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
F.Y.I....Dave was a former SkyWest Brasilia pilot before going back to this job. He just received his ATP the old fashioned way, and recently became certified on the Eclipse.

Thanks.

So sorry for your loss. Over the years I have lost a few. Always takes a bite out of you...everytime. Good that we do not get used to it.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I lost an old colleague/friend last weekend in a plane crash (aerobatic pilot doing a show up in Old Rhinebeck). It SUCKS and feel your pain. My thoughts and prayers with you, and all involved. My saving grace is that he was doing what he truly loved, and had a true passion for.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. News lke this is always hard to take. We all kind of thought it was "cheesy" in traning, but please remember the AIM guideline "I'M SAFE." If you are emotionally affected by this there is no shame in taking a few days off and collecting yourself. If you choose to fly do so carefully and with great pride knowing you are a better pilot because of this man.

To your friend, fair skies and tailwinds on his flight west.

To you, keep your head even doubly in the game, and like a previous poster said, if you're just not in it on a given day, remove yourself from the schedule, no one worthy would look down on you for it.

I hate speculating but does the number 1 engine look like the props are feathered?

Sorry about your friend. I lost my cousin about 2 years ago in an ultralight. It's never easy and as a matter of fact, every time my Mom and I crack open a beer, we raise a toast to "Scotty."

"To fly west, my friend, is a flight we all must take for a final check."

Very Sad

We don't really have much info yet, but I knew dave personally and know he showed great attention to detail and was a great pilot. I just can't imagine what could have brought it down so fast. We'll miss him. I think you can never have to many down to earth good pilots.

These things have a tendency to hit really close to home when it is someone you know personally. My sincere condolences. I don't know any of these people, but I have had this happen before, so I feel your pain.

And whatever kind of flying we all do, let's please just be careful out there!

And this happened while I was out flying on the other side of the state. This is the first I've heard about it.

I hate speculating

I hate speculating too. With a passion. Especially in a thread that's not really about the mishap, but about the loss of the original posters' friend and the other nine who were aboard his aircraft.

Don't you suppose you could at least allow the dead to be buried before you start the guessing game with wild assumptions and speculation?

A little professional decorum might just be in order.

As you all know, I'm all for thread hijacking and pointless arguing over the interwebs...but I'm also all for respecting the dead. For the love of Christ, let a time of mourning pass for those who knew this man.
