Any standby duty is only worth 16 hours or the FDP plus 4 whichever is shorter. Assuming you've already completed 6 hours or so since the beginning of your FDP and the beginning of your "airport standby" you would only be good for a max of 10 hours more duty or the remainder of your FDP plus 4...
Actually, it looks like Miami Air has become the de facto training grounds for JB and Atlas... Have a pulse? Get a B737 type, get some international experience and get a job with a National or a Major. Of course if you leave in less than 3 years you'll owe them the balance of the training...
I'm thinking they see opportunity in the Caribbean market as several companies such as Air Jamaica and Air Aruba and BWIA have gone by the wayside over the last several years... Don't think they'll be after our (Miami Air) sports teams, Incentive groups or military and UN customers... That...
We are both members of Teamsters local 1224... If anything we at "Miami Air" are helping out our union brothers while they sort out their training issues.
An imminent threat to the already established charter operation known as Miami Air International, that was ironically, started by ex EAL pilots and airplanes. ?
MIA is always looking for pilots. We hire small groups at a time...Classes of 4 to 6 is the norm. We had a slow summer but as it turns out we're going for another record year. As previously posted, the training program is a very steep learning curve if you're not already 737 typed, but they will...
Thanks for the info...
We get $200/day FO and $250/day Capt. extra for working on a day off but straight hourly pay beyond the guarantee. We're looking to increase those figures but nothing definitive yet.
Hey guys... We're trying to come up with a decent contract here at Miami Air and since there's not much of a chance that we could bring our wages up to par with scheduled carriers flying similar equipment, we need info regarding pay above and beyond guarantee. This amounts to "day off pay" (for...
In an industry where operators are continuously cutting pay and benefits in order to compete with each other while the top end management always gets over-paid, there have to be Unions in place to protect the workers, in this case PILOTS! Increased costs have to be passed on to customers NOT...
YEA! The "age 60 rule" was contrived of old and obsolete data and therefore should be revised. Furthermore, since pension plans are becoming a thing of the past with airlines, there needs to be a way to close the gap between the age at which one can receive SS payments and is forced to retire.
1000 hours of Lear 30 series time does not a low time F/O make. Besides, unless you're of an enthinc origin that easily blends into the surrounding countries you would be seriously risking your life living over there. They don't love us. We're the "Infidels", remember? They like our thirst for...
So what are they telling new-hires these days as far as upgrade to capt. is concerned? How long? Just curious... I was there for about 6 months and got furloughed a couple of years ago. Got recalled 6 months later but already had a better (?) job.
Hang in there, Pickle! That's the right attiude. Negativity will get you nowhere, so you might as well enjoy it while it lasts...The glory days of the aviation industry along with fat pension plans are definitely over. Hopefully, you'll still have a job when it's all said and done.
I guess to be PIC for someone doing Air Tran subservice without the 500 turbine PIC is okay, but it is not okay to be right seat for actual Air Tran.
Some of us who flew AirTran subservice at Miami Air also fit that discription!
Given the choice... I'd go for the Lear 45 over the 60. You'll be cleaning the "honey-pot" more often in the 60. Either way... Are they training for the LR-31 anymore? When I started there I picked the 60 and got stuck with 31...
