US Airways Reports Highest Annual Profit In Company History

Net Income excluding special items up 384 percent versus 2011
Highlights of US Airways Group, Inc.'s (the Company) fourth quarter and 2012 results:
- Full year 2012 net profit excluding net special items was a record $537 million, or $2.79 per diluted share. This is a 384 percent improvement over the Company's 2011 net profit of $111 million excluding net special items, or $0.68 per diluted share.
- Fourth quarter net profit excluding net special items was $46 million, or $0.26 per diluted share. This compares to a fourth quarter 2011 net profit excluding net special items of $21 million, or $0.13 per diluted share.
- The airline's employees earned approximately $61 million in profit sharing for the full year results, up 408 percent versus 2011, and an additional $19 million in operational incentive payouts through November.

What's wrong with $125/hr for the most senior 737/Airbus 3 series captains? US Air has 240 Airbus 319/320/321 aircraft and 32 737s. Lets say 10 captains per aircraft and average wage should be about $180/hr. Soooo, 272x10x$55,000 (lost per year) = $150,000,000. FOs....272x10x$25,000 (lost per year) = $75,000,000. That's $225,000,000 per year (plus or minus a couple million) the 320/737 guys give up....(did not include the rest of the pilots nor factor in AWA higher pay, but I'm just rounding here) to help out the shareholder and make DWI Parker look great! Thanks for all you do guys! Keep up the good fight.
 
And if pay rates were that high the losses would have been that much greater and the company would have liquidated.

Which maybe should have happened anyway.
 
We're not talking about right away after 9/11 in the 2002-2004 era. We are talking about post AWA merger. The USAPA group in their quest for DOH and keeping the NIC award off property (and effectively a B scale for the foreseeable future) have screwed their own potential earnings and QOL. Of course US Airways posted a record profit. Their management is laughing all the way to the bank. Thanks USAPA, signed, management.

Losses? They just made over half a billion in profit! They would not have gone out of business. Everyone else is turning profits with wages up in this range. Anyway, this pay-scale is not a management problem....this is pilots kicking their own asses.

Losses? They just made over half a billion in profit! They would not have gone out of business. Everyone else is turning profits with wages up in this range. Anyway, this pay-scale is not a management problem....this is pilots kicking their own asses.

Someone has a short memory. Go look at the last 5 years and see how much profit they actually made. Those losses don't come out of employees paychecks, they come from the investors who kept usairways afloat. Absent a ROI that money wouldn't have been available, and with 150m year increased fixed costs...it's much less likely the money would have been given to usair to remain in business.
