I am trying to do some networking here in Georgia, does any one know of any aviation departments in the Atlanta or Northwest Georgia area that may be looking for a new employee, now or in the near future. I am a commercial ASEL/AMEL instrument pilot with 900 hours (no CFI ratings) and looking for a company that will allow me to come in under the GAWORKS program. I am willing to work the ramp, dispatch, charter operations, sky diving, FBO, pipeline, aerial photo or other positions that are related to an aviation career.
The GAWORKS program, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor, will allow me to work for a Georgia based company (or a out of state company with a base of operation in Georgia) for up to six week, at no cost to the company. The Department of Labor will continue to pay my unemployment benefits while I am in training and the company will have the opportunity to see if I am what they are looking for, at no cost to them. If the company decides I do not meet their needs at any time during the training period, there is no penalty to either of us and I have just gained some additional aviation experience. I hope someone knows of a company that will allow me to come in under this opportunity. I feel this is a great program being offered by the Georgia Department of Labor, it allows me to showcase my skills and gives the employer the opportunity to see if I mesh with company, all with NO COST to the company. Please no bashing from the “we are professional and shouldn’t work for free or low wages”, I am not working for free, I am allowing the employer a chance to get to know me and see if we are right for each other. The State only cover this one time six week period, so once you use your allotted time, you can’t get another six weeks. I consider myself to be a professional pilot; I am a member of Civil Air Patrol and would like to get my foot in the door somewhere that I can work my way into a pilot position. I am sorry, but this opportunity is only open to Georgia residents on unemployment and companies with a base in Georgia (HQ can be in another state, but they must have a base of operation here).
Thank you everyone for your help.
