Delta Wins Approval to Build LaGuardia Hub as U.S. Backs Flight-Slot Trade

Q

By Mary Jane Credeur and Mary Schlangenstein - Oct 11, 2011 1:43 PM

Delta Airlines won federal regulators’ approval to build a domestic hub at New York’s LaGuardia airport by trading takeoff and landing slots with USAir.

The accord gives Delta 132 more LaGuardia slot pairs and control of about half the flights there, in exchange for swapping 42 of its pairs at Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport with US Airways, the U.S. Department of Transportation said today in a filing. The carriers must divest 24 pairs to smaller rivals, 16 at LaGuardia and eight at National.
Delta’s advantage at LaGuardia over American Airlines, the second-biggest carrier there, will grow as it takes over most of the US Airways terminal space. Creating a domestic hub at LaGuardia will complement Atlanta-based Delta’s international hub at Kennedy airport.

Hellllooooo RJ's!!!!.........Delta...the Virtual Airline coming to a city near you.........

Buh Bye!!.......

Maybe I don't see the big picture but neither LGA nor DCA seems like much of a prize these days.

DAL traded slots with USAir. Both airlines believe the slots are valuable. In the process they are both forced to give away 14% of those valuable slots to their competitors ... For nothing.

Bwahahahaha

Looks like SWA just got some new slots.....thanks Delta!!!

But, but, but ..... They'll be able to link their Domestic at LaGuardia with their International at Kennedy.

From the press statement:
"Creating a domestic hub at LaGuardia will complement Atlanta-based Delta’s international hub at Kennedy airport."

What are they going to use; Thousands of bicycles to move the pax from one airport to another ? Somebody needs to give RA a map of New York.

Actually it was SWA acquisition of AirTran and their slots at LGA and DCA that paved the way for the Feds to approve the swap this time around. GK and the boys howled pretty hard the first time this swap was attempted. Who knows who is getting those other 16 slots ? Maybe Alaska ?

You're right, you don't see the big picture. This makes the AA/LCC merger that much easier..

SWA actually requested more divestures, but was denied! Looks like they thought it was important, they also spent billions and ruined their culture permeantly to attain more LGA and DCA slots via da Trannies. I guess SWA didn't buy enough pizzas for the government.....

Bwahahahahahahhaa

Godspeed Corndorks!

Is it true Delta narrow body domestic pays less than Airtran? Really?

Are you ever going to be able to leave your Mother's basement OYS? BWahahaha!.....

With that kind of pay, you would be better off with the Occupy Wall Street freaks...at least you could get some free food....

Godspeed OYS! You need it!

No, no. The JFK hub has domestic service with 1 or 2 flights a day to CONNECT with the international banks in the evening. The LGA hub will have premium tickets for New Yorkers who want to go into the city, not go to Amsterdam. Delta will give up the Marine Air Terminal, but will now have a few concourses next to each other, to allow connections to Florida, The DL
Shuttle, and other mainline hubs, too. A big win, in a place where owning real estate matters a lot. I bet GK is NOT happy. Maybe Herb and Colleen should call up Barack and complain?

Godspeed!

You mean current Airtran pay that will stay the same until 2015 because they were supposedly threatened by retired management? Nice! That won't be forgotten, and will always be a bad memory for many. As far as the pay goes, you can look it up online if you want. With current profits running at an all time high thanks to bag fees, it may change for the better soon, and you will still be going to Amarillo. Enjoy that clunky 733 for 5 stops within Texas. My bid is in to get on the 767 and see the World. You, will mostly see Oklahoma and Arkansas. Higher pay just isn't worth that.

Godspeed!

My Amarillo trips will still pay 3 to 4 times as much as your 767 trips!!! And while you are seeing the World as a Relief Pilot (stare out the window and DONT touch anything till the Captain finishes his nap) my wife and I will be on a full fare Business Class seat in the back going on another Holiday! Enjoy what you got cause at your age and all the Delta codeshare, you will never see the left seat........unless of course Delta goes on strike...then you will be the first to cross.......

Godspeed!!

I guess your merger has you a bit testy. Go back to bitching about your own problems as no one, and I mean NO one, give sh!t one about your opinion.

I work for AirTran. Never underestimate the number of competitors that enjoy watching DAL give away slots for free.

New York translated into German means; "More of your eggs in one basket".

Testy? Nope. Happy as can be as opposed to the pilots who work for the "Virtual Airline" Delta....codeshare around the world and RJ's domestically got you guys down? Who would have thought that Valujet guys would be making more than Delta drones? And they don't have PBS!!! Delta MD bud out of ATL hasn't had a weekend off in over 10 years!! The irony of Delta pukes objecting to guys from other airlines leaving posts on Delta threads is hilarious......

Gotta make sure I taxi fast in ATL......never know when some Delta Dorks gonna try and land on top of you....taxiway....runway....what's the difference?

Won't be AS.

Sacha and his Southwest buddies.....the new nazis need something to do!

Sacka...Look up "tool" in the encyclopedia and you see his picture.
