That's a reduction in expected E190 airframes, right?

Bingo.

And....obviously the timing of this entire announcement is orchestrated as part of the anti-ALPA campaign by the company. It's pretty unusual to see an "order" for shiny airplanes in the headline combined with Airbus deferrals and the cancelation of the last 25 E190's that were ordered.

This has nothing to do with ALPA. In recent weeks they've dropped the obligatory hints about cutting growth and ALPA killing the airline, but have just shown that they know business is trucking right along no matter what the outcome of the vote is.

As for the E190 - that also has nothing to do with ALPA and everything to do with the lack of dispatch reliability and higher CASM. JB can't just dump the planes overnight without a replacement, but they can start limiting their exposure to the poor design of the plane.

This is a good thing for the airline. It allows us to continue paying for growth with free cash-flow while still having one of the larger order books in the industry. No we are not now recieving 15 320s now next year, but still we will grow by 10-20 frames a year indefinitely.

It isn't unusual at all for both Boeing and Airbus to hold off announcements of large aircraft orders until the Paris Airshow, n'est pas???

The problem with that is the used airplane market sucks donkey balls right now. Why do you think we took those six used 320's last year. He may sell some if he gets the right price, or more likely return some leases but I think we will still see positive net growth for some time.

No unfortunatley this is not great news for Jetblue pilots. All this is, is a defferal tool without a penalty attached by Airbus. The net gain is lower than the expected deliveries through 2018. Converting orders to 321's is not a gain. The company is a master at the shell game which in this case is benficial to the shareholder-not the pilot group. As far as the neo order, we will have to wait 5+ years and hopefully the company doesn't sell the orders to another carrier for a profit. Joel Peterson owns Netscape Jet which is nothing more than an aircraft brokerage for Jet Blue. I think all that happened today is to just push off all the junoir pilots potential upgrade time. The net aircraft loss can be viewed at the conference call today. Union busting 101 is all they are trying to accomplish-weak try since it's been in the playbook for years.

Correction: JB signs an MOU (not firm orders) for 40 320neo's for some future undetermined date. JB converts 30 existing A320 orders to 30 A321 orders and defers 8 deliveries 2-3 years. JB cancels 25 existing E190 orders and all remaining E190 purchase options. JB announces at least 17 lease returns over the next 7 years, and perhaps more aircraft sales in addition.

Unfortunately, it appears B6 has reached critical mass. Its the same thing AS did...increasing RPMs by getting bigger airplanes. That doesn't translate into more pilot jobs.
