Heard the rumor around the lounge that ASA has cancelled or postponed a new hire class. Anyone confirm this?

Maybe they got schedules for fall and they don't look good? Delta is known to slash flights for the fall heavily and with oil as high as it is.

Not true. Class of 12 just started yesterday, and that was the last scheduled class as of now. No further classes scheduled at this time.

Wait for it......
" 30 June, 2011. Dear ASA Pilots. We are thankful for all the work you've been doing and sacrifices you've been making to keep this operation going under these challenging circumstances. It has just become apparent to us that we may be under-staffed, and are considering hiring some more pilots. They may be online in Jan 2012. We do not know how this situation arose, and it caught us completely by surprise. However, TFAYD. Charlie"

It's coming. Just a matter of time.

I believe the line they usually use after screwing us for any lengthy period of timeis : "We were caught off guard by our current staffing situation"..

Carry on.

Sir it is very d0uche bagish to finish with "Carry on"; we are not in the military; it sounds also like you are trying too hard to show your authority. I thought i'd mention it to you so do not live confused anymore.

Thaaaaaanks!

There is a XJT class scheduled on the 25th and thats the last one for now. They are hiring into a pool for the XJT class.

Regardless of my impromptu use of "Carry on," it still appears to stand that ASA wouldn't know "proper staffing" if it jumped up and skullf****d them.

Is this from that airliners.net thread that was started by the Manager of Safety here at ASA?

There is no manager of safety. There's a director of corporate safety, security, and compliance. There are managers of maintenance safety, ground safety, flight safety, security, etc.

I was referring to the manager of flight safety, not the red porsche director of safety.

Couldn't be the manager of Flight Safety. The guy on airliners.net has to have some kind on inside position at Delta or ASA. Most of his info is pretty in depth operations info(day to day performance numbers for DCI and Delta gate parking information and most of it is correct.)

ASA is going to turn over the IAD flying to the XJT side. This is why XJT is hiring so many more than ASA. This also solves ASA's staffing issues, as 60 more Capts and FOs will be freed up. ASA (crj) will be Delta, and the ERJ's will be United.

Watch for it soon.

Also, the ASA name looks like it's going to be ExpreeJet/Jetlink.

Where do you get this info from?

More likely they boot ASA out of ORD and keep our planes and maintenance at IAD, or the complete reciprocal: move them all to ORD and out of IAD. Contractually the flying still goes to ASA for the allotted time.

Wait and see.

Good idea. But if these cutback rumors come true or even worse, the f-word starts floating around the pilot group, I think we'll see quite a few FOs jump ship to Compass. With the retirements DAL is seeing in 2014, 2015, and 2016, an ASA FO that jumps to Compass now will be in the top 30 at Compass by 2014!

wouldnt be suprising at all. The one thing i have learned from being here is that we absolutely will NEVER keep a base outside of atlanta very long. I am not sure how every other airline does it, but for whatever reason we can't. Thats got to be pretty embarassing for the ASA managers, certainly cant blame that on the pilots.
