You will be sent out flying on short notice, mostly with CAs nobody else wants to fly with on holidays and in bad weather.

Any other questions?

seriously, im looking for good info here and the poster directing me to a search did the job.. thanks. have what i need now...see you on the line

I'm on reserve right now. If you live in base it isnt too bad especially if you like being home. Ive worked 1 day so far this month. Only problem is you don't break guarantee.

If you have enough time to get hired at JB and still give a darn about bad weather, You my friend need to have a real look in the mirror. Oh ya, and grow a pair

Reserve isn't too bad here. They try to give you a late show or long call on the first day and will occasionally release you early on the last day. You also have the ability to swap reserve days which works great if there is sufficient reserve coverage. I've been sitting in the pad a lot, but you just have to find a way to stay busy.

Reserve at JB is probably as good as reserve gets. The schedulers are fair and have tact. They will ask you if you can do the trip rather than tell you. Also, after 5 pm on you last day you can self release. Only down side is you don't fly that much and you never break minimum guarantee.

I wouldnt go this far. There are much better reserve systems out there, ie Delta. You usually dont get a 2 hr callout, but expect nothing other then very early times on day 1 and not more then 2-3 Long call days per month. (as you build seniority, you will get more LCR and later SCR) Flying can vary by month. I credited waaaay over guarantee in December and have worked an average of 40-60 hrs a month since coming online. Make no mistake, reserve isn't fun and I'm excited that I'll be getting off it soon, and I live in base. Its certainly not as bad as regional reserve, but it could be better. I'll agree the schedulers are usually very easy to work with and are very professional. I'm not saying Jetblue reserve is terrible, but its no cake walk either.

As for the "you'll work with the worst capts in the worst weather..." Total crap. I have flown so far with some of the best captains I have worked with in aviation while on reserve here. If this is the worst, being a line holder will be bliss.

is this Smurff???
agreed... but reserve sucks anywhere, and I also agree about the captains, they've been great to me. I'm hoping to hold a line soon but reserve could have been a lot worse. One more thing to the guy that originally asked the question; the call out period is only ten hours.

LCR vs. SCR is not based on seniority at JetBlue, it is dependent on the number of days available and your monthly credit hours. More days available and more credit hours = greater chance of LCR.

Captain Spaz, that's half right. If the above is equal, seniority is the tiebreaker. It actually falls above credit hours in the LCR assignment matrix. Doesn't mean you won't be transitioned immediately to SCR, though...

If you are talking about seniority again, it does not last I checked. I did forget to mention the seniority tiebreaker, which does help at the beginning of the month when everyone is at 0 credit hours.

PM me if you want to argue flowcharts. :)

After spending almost 4 years on reserve here, I can say that it can definitely be a lot better! But I have to admit, it can also be a lot worse. Like anywhere else, you have to learn how to play the cards you've been dealt. Regardless, welcome to JetBlue! There are plenty of pilots here who continue to work hard at making this a better place for everyone.

I'll second this as well. 32mo on rsv. could be alot better and worse... however it'd be nice if they would just turn on the whole fsm...
