I know some of you guys on here ride too. I need to pick up my new steed from Orlando and I'm wondering if I can just non-rev there, pick it up and come home with it. Are there any fees associated for employees checking a big box like that (standard cardboard bike shipping box) and would you recommend it after seeing the way checked items are treated by rampers? I'd hate to see a brand new carbon frame damaged before I even had a chance to ride it!

Anything's possible

I once carried a 17' canoe in the back of a Falcon 20...no one seemed to mind, though I nearly took out a couple of MN Timberwolves as I carried it on my shoulders through Signature in MSP... I realize this has nothing to do with your question, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I looked into this about five years ago, so my info may be a little out of date. Delta had a specific bike box the fee was 75$ one way for employees. I had to just talk to someone in DFW baggage claims and they gave me all the info. Hope this helps.

you are better off paying money and getting it shipped with UPS or FedEx, at least you have some insurance with that......if you can afford a good carbon bike, might as well get it shipped properly! or if its a big shop and if they have same shop in your town get them to ship it shop to shop and go pick it up.

Use your Fedex discount, WAY CHEAPER and insured.

Take in to the nearest Fedex STAFF location including Kinko's/Fedex office, and your company ID. Tell them your shipping via an interline discount.

The discount is on express 2 day or overnight, it is cheaper than asking them to just sending ground.

I do it aLOT.

PM if you have any more Q's

Solution! Thank you to everyone that responded, very much appreciated!

Is DHL still flying? Don't use them or whoever owns them now, they wrecked one of my Ultegra shifters and conveniently lost the claim several times.

What are you buying?
