When I was their in 2000 to 2005 that kind of stuff was all over the place. The biggest violators of misusing the company radio (except the pilots) was the Chadron, NE agents.

I remember being about 100 feet above the runway when I got a transmission that a cessna 172 with no lights was on short final for the same runway at Sheridan, WY. Of course I went around, only to later find out it the agent (who was undergoing private pilot training) thought it would be a funny joke to make fake transmissions like that.

Someone screwing around and bangs up a plane, nothing new when I was a pilot there. One of the examples that leapt into my mind was the "Let's see how short I can land" near accident where it was rumored the crew put the plane into beta on short final in Worland, WY. I hear they made the first turnoff on the runway, but had a pesky problem of the gear warning going off after the landing, as all of the squat switches were destroyed during the very hard landing.

(That was one of the reasons you upgraded as soon as possible, as once you were the captain you figured the FO wasn't going to do that crap without your permission!)

I'm still trying to understand why chicken noises had anything to do with the fact that they were marshalled into the overhang at an area of the plane they had no way of seeing. It appears that the USA Today is, in fact, slinging mud to get readers.

I was there 97-99 and didn't see any of that. Maybe it started after I was gone.
