Just heard from an AirTran buudy of mine that USA 3000 is belly up and AirTran is taking over their Apple Vacation schedule. Any one got any info?

I know we do fly for apple vac. There's also been a lot of talk of 737/700 or800 coming on property next year. But who knows..

Hmm, would not surprise me in many ways other than in May someone ponied up a lot of money for a 49% stake in U3K. We know airline investors are not the smartest people in the world, but I do not think someone would put that kind of money up to just shut the airline less than four months later.

On the other hand U3K management put a lot of time and effort into getting DoD approval to get some military contracts and they were not on the announced list of new contracts that just came out, so their entire business plan may have just gone belly up. It will be interesting to hear.

That investment was by a spanish vacation company similar to Apple. Family owned and run with intrests in many countries. And It was an investment in Apple, not U3K. This created a board that may have a different view of the Airline part of the Apple group.
So once again who knows. Ill just continue collecting my unemployment check for now....Don't feel like pursuing the glorious hireing pool @ Cape air or putting on a raghead or turban since those are the only options right now.

Take care.
Joe.

US3000 will and never be a career airline. It was a refuge for many furloughed pilots after the big furloughs after 9/11. I think most went back or went to Jetblue. Airlines the size above US3000 come and go. Just like Carnival. I would be surprised to see them around in 5 years. How many pilots are left? I remember them having almost 200 pilots a few years ago.

5 years funny..........how about 5 months. In 2005 they had 160+ pilots, now they are down to the mid sixties.

Thats growth in the wrong direction.

This airline is nothing more than an internal lift provider for Apple Vacations. They got so tired of contract lift that they started their own. They grew with their vacation demand and shrink it when it goes south. Supply and Demand. Then there is cost $. If airtran can do it cheaper than their own or they just need short contract months sub-contract it out.

Losing the Hooter's contract was what started Pace's demise, but if Apple outsources to AAI the end of U3K would be fast, similar to the Midwest meltdown. All these damm managements seem to be reading from the same playbook, outsource and then either downsize or shutdown.
