Holy Toledo. I got the email from our union and it looks like they're allocating a million bucks to make sure the SWAPA pilots don't get screwed with this purchase.

What kind of money/resources does FAPA have?

I suspect SWAPA is going to be the gorrilla in this whole mess.
 
By the way, I can't think of a better use for our hard-earned dues money, sorry Frontier guys, but we've got a good thing going and I suspect we'll fight to the death to keep it that way.
 
SWAPA will spend whatever is necessary to make sure that Soutwest Pilots are fairly represented when it comes to seniority integration. One million is being requested from the reserve fund as an initial allocation, much more is available if necessary.

F9 pilots will be welcomed with open arms but SWAPA represents Southwest pilots. When it is all said and done, F9 pilots will be SWAPA pilots so a good agreement that is fair for everyone is ideal.

This doesn't even make sense. What does SWAPA spending biggo resources to protect our seniority list have to do with the no voters handing $396 million back to the company?

You do know that they're using the raise money you gave back to them to pay for this acquisition, don't you?

Lol, y'all might be surprised. Should FAPA have to fight the "final battle", we could spend every cent and mortgage the office furniture to pay the laywers. May it never get that ugly. Best wishes from us F9ers.
 
Well, it looks like just the ante on this particular poker game is now a cool million dollars. I could easily envision SWAPA raising the bid as the cards are dealt, I haven't seen how big our rainy day fund is up to, but a while ago it was over six million dollars.

We'll see.

I mentioned this because I was a bit taken aback at the sheer size of the resources SWAPA was throwing at this thing, within hours of the announcement.
 
Well hey, they have a good thing going over there..... You Frontier guys can as well. Here's what you can do to fit in over there at SWA. Forget anything you've learned about technology and CRM. That will be a good place to start. Start thinking about "me" a lot more. Mention your W-2 earnings often and refrain from talk about any sort of retirement plan. When talk of a retirement plan is mentioned, change the subject and mention how cool Herb was and how he could drink most CEO's(Gordon Bethune gave him a run for his money) under the table.....
 
I think most unions come prepared money wise for a merger. The problem is you don't really know what you will get when it comes to arbitration. Thanks to the Bond Ammendment, you can't just staple them. Now, you could pull an ATA and just buy their assets and promise you might hire some (which is what it sounded like in that memo). But, it also sounded like all of the unions had to sign off on the deal (?), and that means some people will agree to arbitration etc, which may mean the dreaded C word---compromise. Have fun! It......will......be......FANTASTIC.

You also have to start thinking "this job of mine is the best on the planet. Why wouldn't anyone want to fly the same plane for the rest of your life, doing multiple leg days with 25 minute turns, forever? " Hey, they do have stability, and the pay is great, not to mention most of the stews. Overall, it would be a major improvement from your current status. And those 23 hour (or 23 trips) 3 day trips are great, except when your last day consists of a BWI-LAX nonstop, followed by 2 more quick legs---to PHX and LAS to finish. Live hard, play hard, until you die....

Naah, Gordon jumped some railroad tracks on the way home from a party and bottomed out his 911 yet still made it home untouched by the cops.... chug a lug doug got caught, which means he can't hold his liquor as well. Gordon was asked by the local Ferrari dealer shortly afterward if he'd like to drive a new one of theirs to see if he might like it. He(in his funny, sarcastic tone) said " you are aware of the reason I have no sports car right now aren't you?" I heard this story from the horse's mouth, and that horse didn't work for the Ferrari dealer. He will never be replaced.

But...F9 is in a take it or leave it position. There will be an agreed to integration or they will be part of RAH. This will not go to Arbitration.

The only way this will not go to arbitration is if there is a mutually agreed to seniority list. Otherwise there will be arbitration.

Nope. The Gorilla is going to be the new Federal Law that mandates that different pilot unions use Binding Arbitration as the final method to merge seniority lists. In the End, it's out of both sides' hands what will happen.

As it should be.
 
SWA has said that if seniority integration is not agreed upon they will not proceed with the bid. I will find a link. IT WILL NOT GO TO ARBITRATION.

We view this as an exciting opportunity for the Employees and Customers of both Southwest and Frontier. It represents an opportunity for Southwest to grow our Denver Customers; grow our revenues; and grow our profits. We must caution, however, that this is merely a preliminary step in the bidding process.We must submit a binding proposal by August 10. If there is more than one qualified investor, and at this time Republic Airways has also submitted a bid, an auction will be held beginning August 11. Frontier will determine, in consultation with the unsecured creditors committee, which bid to accept and present to the bankruptcy court for approval. Although our plans may vary as we work our way through this process, we wanted to share with you our present plan as we envision it. Frontier would continue to operate independently and separately for a period of time with its Airbus aircraft and personnel. We do not intend to integrate the Airbus into our Boeing 737 fleet. If they buy the assets and then hire who they want then some of us could be in a great position. Since they are flushing the pool, then some of us with connections could get in before they start to hire back the Frontier guys. Then you'd have a quick 400-500 pilots junior to you.

How bad could you possibly be screwed by the very small group of F9 pilots? Instead of the immediate us vs them mentality it would be nice to see something like an announcement of a joint working group, cooperation, and an acknowledgement of what F9 would bring to the company. We can be such d*cks about a few seniority numbers in this industry. The we have a "culture to protect" argument doesn't fly either. You're way to big for that now.

Ha, you don't want me there. Thanks for the insults. The holier than thou attitude comes through loud and clear. I don't work for either and I'm very happy where I am but have plenty of friends at SWA. Great company yes, but pissed off people just like everywhere else. You grow past a certain size and it's inevitable that you lose what you had as a small company. Just like to see pilots in this industry treating others with more respect instead of as the adversary. I'm saying it could work out nicely for both groups or it could be ugly depending on how it's handled. Preferencial hiring...sounds like a crock to me. After all, you would be inheriting a customer base they've worked hard to gain. From what I've seen you would be lucky to have the F9 guys and girls on board.
