Does ATC not see the altitude changes displayed on ICAO flight strips? A captain was mad at me for thinking I filed him at a wrong altitude for the direction of flight, yet if you look at the ICAO flight strip, it clearly shows a change of altitute at the appropriate point. The captain stated that ATC is only concerned with the final altitute. If this is the case, why are the ICAO strips (at least in our system) set up to display altitute changes. I mean, didn't the U.S. choose to go to this format?
 
The way I understand it, ATC doesn't get the altitude changes as filed in the ICAO format.

Another little fun fact... The FAA is still using the NAS format (single letter) equipment codes on their strips and PDC's. The FAA reps I've talked to said they're aren't any plans to convert to the ICAO format either.

If someone has better or more accurate information, please add it so I can see it too.

I've always thought that if there was an altitude change that was filed on a flight plan that occurred in their sector, then the controller would have that altitude change shown on his strip. Anyone?
 
I dunno....all I know is ATC wanted us to go to this ICAO format.....and now when we're doing it, it seems like ATC doesn't follow it.
 
In the terminal (Tower and approach enviroment), we see exactly the same thing that we saw on your flight progress strips prior to the implementation of the new ICAO procedures - the final altitude requested, nothing more.
